I wasn't overly fond of the movie, but not because of the changes. I just felt like they didn't give enough airtime to the Guide itself. I thought the casting was excellent, although even tho' I'm a huge Rickman fan, nobody will ever top Stephen Moore in my book (Rickman is close tho').

By the way, I probably should issue the disclaimer that this video is NOT an official one. No matter how much HHGTTG deviates in its various forms, I'm not really sure it will ever evolve to writhing and pole dancing and the like...well, maybe...but not yet.

that's the saddest thing to me about his passing away at such a young age. Imagine what he could be writing to comment on the state of our society now. We were robbed, I tells ya. Robbed.

I think about how sad I am that Douglas Adams is no longer with us more often than I readily admit. . .

My daughter just read hitchhikers for the first time recently- and it's so great to pass the torch on to another generation. Now we joke about Genuine People Personalities and Vogon poetry as mother and daughter. Good times, good times. . .

I had mixed feelings about the recent movie -- adored some parts, not as fond of some others -- but to me, the absolute best moment in the whole flick was the very last image, when the Heart of Gold engaged the improbability drive again. As it (very improbably) became several things before blipping away, it ended with the gentle face of dear old D.A. It was a wonderful tribute.

I always admired his tremendous wit and creativity and his ability to turn writing conventions on their ear (not to mention his notorious aversion to deadlines). To me his method of learning to fly always made much more sense than Peter Pan's. Pixie dust and happy thoughts are nice, mind you, but who can resist flinging yourself at the ground and then distracting yourself mid-fall so you forget to hit it??? :D:

I saw it San Diego with my best friend last August. We we were both familiar with the soundtrack and I had seen them on the Tony Awards. Seeing it in person was awesome. I was surprised at how many senior citizens were in the audience though. My guess is that many of them were Old Globe Theater subscribers/patrons (Old Globe sponsored the production).
There is a nice website devoted to Ave Q and a great coffee table book on the play. The book has a fuzzy orange cover! :)

Sounds fun! I never even heard of Ave. Q before this thread but it sounds interesting.

This reminds me of the warning I felt compelled to give my nextdoor neighbor. She and her husband are in their early 70s, and although she is very open-minded her hubby would probably flip out at the mention of "gay," let alone gay puppets, hot puppet sex and the like. They subscribe to the Orlando theater series, so I made sure to warn her NOT to bring him. She's going with her daughter instead...whew!

Have you read Last Chance to See? I think it's his best work, his masterpiece. I love Hitchhiker's very much, but I think he reached his pinnacle with LCtS. It's heartbreaking and incredibly funny and pitch-perfect. The bit with the kakapo gets me every time. "Come and GET me!" "Where are you?" "Come and GET me!" "Where the heck are you?" "Come and GET me!" "Look..."

The kakapos and the fruit bats are doing okay for now, but sadly, the baiji dolphin is gone forever.
