Are you trying to coyly say that Disney was hiring undocumented workers? I don't buy that.Doctor McKey wrote:Well if you have not noticed the majority of the "hired help" is haitian and speek little to no english..... wtf is casting thinking... of coure I wa informed by a certin person at an undiscolsed cotsuming that the laundry facility was staffed by 25 CM 1 Co-Ordinator and 1 GM, but when the fine folks from the federal goverment stared to hint that they where going to do an inspection of certin areas... well.... lets just say that we only have a Co-Ordinator and a GM washing our cloths now..... Re: Bad Show Question...
Oh, I'm sure they're documented, but that does not help the english situation. It's very difficult when you are trying to communicate a problem to a person who speaks no English. This is pretty common in backstage areas like costuming. We have quite a few people of Haitian descent in costuming and it's very difficult sometimes to get a problem fixed due to the langauge barrier. I remember one particular time when they didn't have my size shirt. The manager was bound and determined to find me something decent to wear as that is a safety hazard when working attractions (I wear a S and all they had were XXL's). She told me to get a slip from the guy at the counter, but he didn't speak English and refused to give it to me. He wanted me to go back and find her, but at this point I was already very late and didn't want to put my area even further behind (anybody who works with CDS knows what I'm talking about).
Another place where it is prevalent is entertainment. We have quite a few Spanish speaking people in Entertainment, in fact, there is one breakroom that is not-so-affectionately known as the "Latin Quarters." It's a bit disconcerting when people are talking in a language you don't understand and you have no clue what they are saying. My friend was working with some guys once who spoke Spanish, and they were saying some pretty lewd things to eachother about a girl who was at the location with them. They didn't know my friend spoke Spanish. He politely informed them that if they didn't knock it off, he woudl tell the girl exactly what they were saying.

I did not say anything like that. I was just meerly stating what was expressed to me from a costumming person that had first/second hand smoke inhalation... errr.. i mean knowledge of this. I would never ever say that my employer was partaking in an illeagle practice of employment.Amphigorey wrote:Are you trying to coyly say that Disney was hiring undocumented workers? I don't buy that.

I fully agree. This is one of those moments where I just want to scream about how if you're moving to my country you should learn my language, but I won't. It's one thing to visit, but if I move to France, I expect to learn French first.EeyoresButterfly wrote:It's a bit disconcerting when people are talking in a language you don't understand and you have no clue what they are saying.
No, I am not planning to.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

We had a ICE bust two weeks ago that shut down Bubba Gump's and two Cheeseburger In Paradise locations.Amphigorey wrote:Are you trying to coyly say that Disney was hiring undocumented workers? I don't buy that.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

One time I was going up the emergency exit stairs to the Epcot monorail platform and there were 6 or 7 full trash bags piled on the top stair landing against the door and it smelled something bad in there. Needless to say i called around and got it fixed asap.

Well, language is a tricky thing. I understand the feeling of being left out when you don't speak what the group is saying. On the other hand, if I moved to, say, Japan and worked at Tokyo Disneyland, I would definitely learn Japanese (easier said than done!), but if I had English-speaking co-workers, I'd probably be happy to speak English with them on my breaks. I imagine that's what the Spanish-speakers are doing; they're surrounded by English, their second language, most of the time, so they find it relaxing to be able to use their native language when they can.Big Wallaby wrote:I fully agree. That said, that totally doesn't excuse those jerks making rude, sexist comments. That's just gross. Really, they should be reprimanded for promoting a hostile work environment.
