Monorail Parking (all others will be towed at owner's expense)
Re: Monorail Parking (all others will be towed at owner's expense)
Eh, I think the time for a Monorail system all over WDW has passed already. If Disney wants to be on that bleeding edge again and do what I personally think Walt would want, they would build the first mid scale PRT system. Im sure there is some company out there that would want to work with Disney to make the system real and work. Yeah, it wouldn't be like the density or scale of a full sized urban system, but it would be a GREAT proving ground for the tech. And the entire world would see it thanks to its major tourist location.
Yeah, one can wish/blue sky imagineering... But I really think that this is the greatest potential for a mass transit system at WDW.

A Modest Proposal
Everyone seems to be talking about having a new Monorail. That is not what is needed.
We need the Wedway People Mover!
There would an elevated track with terminals at each park, including the water parks and miniature golf courses, and each resort. Possibly multiple terminals at DTD.
There would be main lines and hubs. Each of the vehicles would have a small control panel and you would indicate your destination and press a <START> button which would close the doors and start your car moving. The central computer system would know your destination, move you from the terminal onto a main line at high speed, and have high-speed junctions to move your vehicle, by the most direct route, to your destination.
The cars would have some kind of enclosure to protect the occupants from the weather.
For security purposes it would only be for people who are Resort Guests, having to use their KTTW to access the vehicles. There would be security cameras in each vehicle so if something happens which should not, combined with use of KTTW, Disney would be able to see who caused whatever damage which may have been done. And if someone monitoring the cars sees some illegal actions they could hit a button which will override the intended destination and the vehicle would end up at a special security station.
This would definitely cut down on the number of buses required.

I like it -- and it would be a little more of Walt's EPCOT vision put to practical use.Cheshire Figment wrote:Everyone seems to be talking about having a new Monorail. That is not what is needed.

They could come up with a system similar to the DFW airport. I have had to use that system many times, and it sees to be the right type for moving a lot of people.

But, but what about me? Or are APs not allowed due to the fact that they would often be SGs?Cheshire Figment wrote:For security purposes it would only be for people who are Resort Guests, having to use their KTTW to access the vehicles.

OOOOO....I like the People Mover idea. How cool would that be. I can see it now tho, E-STOP! Reason; getting busy in the car :D:
and being the PITA that I am
...the heck with rum (sorry Grump..lol) I say we all vote for Mickey Mouse. Not that I care either way but I love how we never stay on topic here...LOL
NOW, what about if they ran a monorail straight from the airport to the parks, something like the magical express where they take you directly to the parks so you dont have to stop at the hotel to check in. It will all be done right at the airport or even better while you are on board the special monorail. How cool would that be? Get your tickets and room keys right then and there and they deliver your luggage to your room. LOL

Have you really been at KSR for 6 months to be able to transfer to monorails?????Big Wallaby wrote:Heya, Switchbeam...
I am sending you a PM with a bunch of seemingly random numbers, but I think you will enjoy them. Yes, that is all from memory.
Geez, I'm gonna leak it here any time. I promise, early next month I have an announcement to make that I have already told a few people here, and others already know. Switchbeam, when I send that PM to you, you'll know exactly what I am doing.
No, I don't know anything, but I'm taking a stab in the dark..
