They actually now make them with a non-vacuum compression system. You don't suck the air out with a vacuum hose, you press it out through a one-way valve that lets you squeeze them pretty flat. Then you don't have the problem of how to repack for the trip home.

No, there are two different kinds. The travel type have a one way valve built in them that you simply roll them and squeeze the air out. they work great. I got my lands end parka in one and squeezed it down to a small enough pack that it would fit in my Tumi overnighter, it came in handy when I would go from California to Washington in winter!!

For items that dont squishe well, ther is the Packbord that has a way of folding dress shits then using velcro tabs, will hold them down. I could get five or so shirts on that and a couple pair of slacks.

Cool! And I hear they are not really wrinkled either when they come out of the bag.

Pretty much. I learned to roll them one way, then the other. It gets the air out better, and "offsets" the roll in the opposite direction, so you end up with a "sort of" flat package.

DW used them for her tops and it seemed to work pretty good. Of course, all out "travel" clothing is the wrinkle free stuff anyway. The nice thing that I like is unpacking. I have various sizes of the small bags, and the socks, open the bag, dump it in the drawer! Underwear, open the bag, dump it in the drawer!

They also come in handy when leaving. as you can put all the dirty clothing (or wet swimsuits!) in them, and they will not stink up your suitcase. We we get back home, just put them next to the wash machine. DW just wipes them out after they have dirty clothing in them, with a clorx wipe and lets the bag air out, and ready for next trip!

I have several brands, but noticed that the space bag brand is the more sturdy!

of course we use the big ones that require a vaccume cleaner, to store all of quilts and stuff DW makes! Plus the have some that are on hangers, and we have put some of the clothing that DW has entered in competition in them for storage!
