Bad show, just plain and simple bad show.
Re: Bad show, just plain and simple bad show.
One of the oddest sights on my WDW trip in December was standing in the Everest queue behind four CMs who were in costume but without nametags.
In giving them the benefit of the doubt, PERHAPS they were new CMs who were riding Everest so that they knew about attractions near their area.
Three of them were obviously Foods CMs from Dinoland (Restaurantosaurus, I think). They were wearing the bright-blue with maroon striped shirts, maroon pants, the guys had white aprons around their waists. I think the guys were wearing some kind of "diner chef" hat, the girl had the little quasi-maid's hat. The fourth person was in a more generic costume, perhaps Outdoor Foods or Vending that was khaki pants and a light-green button-down shirt. None of them were wearing nametags. I kind of assumed it was a Lead giving the tour to his new CMs.
Any thoughts on that? Am I being too generous on giving the benefit of the doubt, and they were just riding while on break? Doesn't introduction to your area usually happen soon after Traditions while your'e still wearing your "business casual" attire before getting a costume?

That was completely in contradiction of company policy. WDW (and some DLR) Trainees wear this "Earning My Ears" red ribbon on their nametags, so they weren't trainees.Rob562 wrote:One of the oddest sights on my WDW trip in December was standing in the Everest queue behind four CMs who were in costume but without nametags.

And even if they were, CMs shouldn't be riding rides in costume (and assumably on duty) while the park is open, under any circumstances (the one exception to this is during Cast Parties and Previews, such as the holiday party here at the DLR).

No, that is bad show.Rob562 wrote:One of the oddest sights on my WDW trip in December was standing in the Everest queue behind four CMs who were in costume but without nametags.

We are usually introduced to things within our line of business that are relevant. For Dinoland foods to be riding an attraction in costume is not permitted. Now my trainer and I rode Soarin' after we trained all day but we changed shirts. It is VERY strange for foods to ride an attraction. At the land we do "Show Quality Checks" when we get tasks and we sit in the back of boat in full costume. But that is part of our job. (Wink Wink) Also I have been deployed to do Soarin' Fastpasses and Greeting while in a Land Costume due to them being short-staffed and the coordinators knowing I like perming over there. I just tell everyone that I am the skycap. LOL! Really it isn't a huge difference since we share the same building. Know if I was grouping carriages in a Land Costume that might be a little more unacceptable.

This is the best thing about Toontown Costume. The pants are regular Wrangler jeans! Just throw on a shirt and go. Even better when its cold, just put on a big jacket and it covers up the red toontown shirt.CMGUY89 wrote:That is the good thing about the land costume. If we remove the green polo and have an undershirt or put a jacket over the shirt all you can see is the khaki shorts/pants which makes it easy to go onstage to buy something from sunshine seasons. Soarin' can't do that! HAHA!
Although if management finds out you bought something onstage while on the clock, that could get you in big trouble. But it saves me a lot of stares at the gas station (versus bright green pants and peasant shirt of f-land).
Edit: oh, and we do "Quality Checks" very rarely since our queues are always so long. I LOVE doing ridethroughs and try to get one in mid-day if possible to check and see how crapped up the ride is from all the guests. At Snow I forgot about some of our new intrusions and accidentaly triggered one while riding with a set of pickers.
All of fantasyland costume is the same for ops, so I could go to any attraction there at any time. Also, toonies are permitted to be in Fantasyland for Wishes PAC setup, however they have to be placed in front of the castle or at the Enchanted Grove rope.

Hmm, our management never cared as long as we weren't identifiable as CMs.

My guess as to why you could get lunch at Sunshines is because of the location. Your cast cafeteria is on the other side of the park, whereas ours is located right below us. I would love to have village haus pizza for lunch instead of that ARAMARK crappy pizza. Subway has become my diet.

Oh yes...hopefully I can lose some weight this summer on the subway diet. Unfortunately I think the coke I drink to keep myself awake will counteract any healthy choices I make food-wise. Also, when we grab food we grab it and go right back into the breakroom we share with seasons. We don't eat out with the guests.

I too may grab my food on stage and bring it back to the break room with me. I pull on my "civilian" clothes over my leotard and just go out. In Characters Spot, friends like to go grab something from Electric Umbrella and eat with the rest of the CMs.

Village Haus is a Cast Commissary here at the DLR (they have a backstage window). If yours' is the same as ours, let me just say...no, you don't :p: (it is better than the stuff they serve at Sodexo, though).bpgstudios wrote:I would love to have village haus pizza for lunch instead of that ARAMARK crappy pizza. When I first moved to Celebration, it was really weird to see CMs in costume at Publix, the various fast food joints, gas stations, Wal-Mart, etc. Now I'm used to it and don't bat an eye, but it does make you do a double take at first when you move down here.
