Put a few families off the ship at the next port and watch how fast this would stop.

If only  I get the feeling there isn't much corporate sympathy for the poor CM in the costume. The SG on the other hand, is spending money and making the corporation happy.

Syndrome wrote:This idiotic behavior goes on on the cruise line too. I remember once waiting in line for Stitch on Pirate Night where he wears an eye patch and hat/bandanna. Kid pulls off the eye patch while SG parent chortles with glee and snaps away with the camera. Not only did Stitch not appreciate it, but he had to go offstage to get his costume fixed, taking valuable time away from all the others who were waiting in line, since the characters are only out for a very limited amount of time. I think they should have had their camera confiscated and tossed overboard and been banned from coming within 100 feet of another character for the duration of the cruise.
So the characters can decide to get even and corner them into a section of the ship and eventually "nudge" them off the shit. Thats a good idea.

In extreme cases, we had security escort the guest out or called OPD to press assault charges. I have a friend who's disabled for life because someone thought it would be funny to "ride Shamu" by jumping off a planter onto his back. Unfortunately, what appears to Shamu's back is the performers head and neck, and they crushed some of the vertibae in her spine when they landed on her.
What legal action came out of this? I hope he was charged with assault and didn't just get his wrist slapped.

What if Guest A is beating up the character, and Guest B tries to stop Guest A and they end up getting into a small fight. Would Guest B be made to leave the park, or would the "Character" stand up for Guest B?

It really makes me upset to hear of the character performers being treated this way! The costumed folks are a big part of the magic for me; it makes me feel 10 years old again. I wait in the line patiently.... I approach the character gladly... then I ask politely if I may get a picture of me with my arm around the character. Tigger nodded and then *kissed* my cheek and purred; Eeyore looked shy and nodded and gave me a hug; Donald Duck... well was a perfect Donald and made kissy noises and got really close. I think even with a costume on, people need to have their personal spaces appreciated. I can't imagine how someone would feel it is appropriate to jump on someone!

These people are a part of the magic; one shouldn't stomp on the magic. :(

Pay back is a bitch!!!

If memory serves me correct... it is at the char. or handlers discretion on notification to management / Security as to the incident. If security is notified, then immediate ejection from the park is mandated. I think i saw a guest being ejected from the park via giant sling-shot.

You're preaching to the choir here. Sadly there are some people who seem to think it is funny to hurt others, especially if the other is a character.

I think I will try to meet a few characters while down at the World. I had decided a long time ago that when I become a CM I will get autographs and pictures with every character and I might as well start my collection now.

I can't imagine what could possibly be going through these jerks' heads! The physical assaults as well as verbal ones. I had a friend on my College Program who was lucky enough to be a face char. (Cinderella mostly, I was so Jealous) And she got some of the nastiest perverted comments.... I can't imagine having to just sit there and smile.

oh and btw...

No, don't toss the camera overboard! Toss them overboard! Give the camera to me, if it's a nice SLR. If you see a Canon EOS 1D Mark III or a Nikon D3, please keep me in mind an throw the owners overboard at the first sign of SG behavior, especially toward the characters. There, I brought it back to context, I made the comment that I would be happy with either the Canon or Nikon product, so we can't fight about which camera is better, and I gave good advice regarding SG's. What more need be said?

I'm not sure how I missed that since I tend to read over what I write at least twice.
I would go and edit it, but I guess too much time has gone by since I wrote it.
