I saw this on another site and thought you rock guys might get some good advice from it.
Ask Zack de la Rocha (Rage Against The Machine)
Q. Dear Zack de la Rocha,
My boyfriend wants an MP3 player for Christmas, but I don't know what kind to get him. I went to an Apple retail store but there are so many models and I just got confused by the lists of features and specifications. Does he need video? What's a gigabyte? I have no idea. Then there's the Zune. And then a zillion other brands like Sandisk. I went to Circuit City and they were no help at all. My boyfriend is a huge fan of yours so whatever you recommend would be cool. Can you offer some advice?
Signed,
Jennifer in Akron

A. Oh, hell no, motherf****! You did not just ask me that! Did you? For real? I mean after four hundred years of slavery and with people of color being twenty-nine times as likely as white people to go to prison in this country and with a fascist born-again Christian theocracy in power and robbing us of what few rights we still have, this is what you're worried about? A motherf*****g MP3 player for your motherf******g boyfriend? Are you shitting me, little Jennifer from Akron? What's that? You think I'm angry? You think I got issues? Damn right I've got issues. And damn right I'm angry. We all gotta get angry!. Way I see it there ain't enough of us angry! But oh we are getting there, yes indeed, we are getting angry, brothers and sisters. There is some angry motherf*****s out here tonight!

And so little Jennifer from Akron goes walking into some motherf*****g mall and goes into an Apple store and then she goes to Circuit City and you wonder why they can't help you? I got news for ya Jennifer, it's not that they can't help you. It's that they won't help you. Any why not? They're not out there trying to help you, they're out there trying to control you! They want to own your motherf*****g mind with their DRM and the rights restrictions! Soon as you walk into that store they're controlling you. You're doing what they told you! Do you not see that? Are you motherf*****g blind, motherf****r?

These Apple stores are nothing but shiny white yuppie prisons! And Circuit City? These big box stores, these capitalist prisons, these Wal-Marts and Best Buys and Circuit Citys, exploiting their workers, we can't be shopping in there! We gots to be burning these motherf*****s to the ground! Can you dig it? Can you feel me on this? I mean this is war, people. And we are not the ones with the billy clubs and the mace and the tear gas and the shotguns and the German shepherds! We're just out there with our voices and the truth and our anarchy, because that's the only weapons we got to disrupt these motherf*****s, and that's the only weapons we need! It's war, motherf*****s! I mean Amadou Diallo, right? Brother took four hundred and fourteen bullets in his body from corrupt fascist pigs, and what happens? The pigs all got medals! Not a single damn one in jail! It's time to step up, Jennifer from Akron. Step up and get angry!

However, to answer your question, I'd say your choice of music player depends a lot on how your boyfriend intends to use the product. If it's important to him to carry his complete collection in one device, I'd recommend the 160-gigabye iPod Classic from Apple. If he doesn't mind carrying only part of his collection I'd highly recommend the iPod Touch, also from Apple. It only holds 16 gigabytes but the touch interface is really amazing. Hope that helps.

Luv,

Zack

Hobie: It's funny because it's true (all of it:Zack being an angry M*th*rF*ck*r and the things he's ranting about...and the analysis of which iPod to get at the end!)

Ktulu: Yes and no. As I'm sure you know, mic stands do not generally come with the bit that actually clips the mic to the stand. The mic comes with the clip as the size of the clip is dependent on the mic for a good fit. The cheap-o mics that ship with Rock Band (a Rock Band branded Logitech Vantage mic) do not come with clips. On the other hand, depending on what equipment you already own, you might have a clip that will work. I us Shure SM58 mics for stage performance, and I find the Logitech mic fits just fine in that clip. I also know that the SM58's are the same size as the PG58's as well as certain AKG and Nady mics, and probably others too. In other words, if you already have equipment for stage performance, you probably have something that will work. It won't be perfect, but what is? (although I'm not sure if you really want to use a stand unless it's a decent boom stand. the logitech mics are short, so I feel like I'm all up on top of my normal straight vertical stage stand.)

And I don't know about any 60 day warranty. We didn't have to register our Rock Band equipment in order to use the RMA system. I did have to make an account online that involved giving them my physical address, email, phone number and name, but nothing about the game. How would they know how many copies of the game I bought? I think they know full well that they shipped the game in a slightly rushed manner to get it out in time for Christmas, and that there are still issues with it. I think they're doing anything they can to keep people happy because that'll be the difference between us buying Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero 4... Also, I found instructions online for fixing the common issue with the guitar, and I'm confident I can do it (it's a sensor misalignment and the fix involves two phillips head screwdrivers and about 15 minutes...less with an electric driver!) I'm kinda curious about what happens with the drums. Neither myself nor my roommate are avid drummers, so we've been going easy on them probably. Maybe that's why those haven't screwed up on us yet. As I've sung for years, I know mics are essentially disposable. I'm just looking around now to see if I can get a really decent mic that'll hook up to usb for my next Rock Band mic. I'm thinking about getting an in-line converter that will go from XLR to USB. Just thinking about the fact that there's a company making those now makes me smile! :D:

Hey, here's a question for you: my roommate is thinking he might want to learn to play drums for real. I got him a Zildjian stick bag and a couple pairs of Zildjian sticks. I read that most beginning drummers use size 5A. Is there anything else my roommate should try to see if he likes the feel of it? A different size or shape? I saw they make "rock" sticks as well as all sorts of different tips. Do you prefer nylon or wood? Is that up to the individual drummer's feel or do they make different sounds on a real kit? I know my drummer in my last band only used wood sticks and brushes... Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated! (I'll probably end up going and getting him a kit from a Guitar Center after Christmas sale...at least I know enough to get Zildjian cymbals and some decent heads...my last drummer only used Evans G2 coated heads so I've grown to love their sound!)

I'm also holding off on Rockband. I've read about not production issues, just quality issues with the guitar, drum pads and the kick pedal specifically. I only want the game for the drums, and as a drummer, I know I will be hard on the pedal. Plus I want a Xbox 360, and only have PS2 now. I want to be able to download more songs.
And what paper do you want me to wrap that XBox360 in? HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! We have a PS2 and Ralph has NEVER taken it out of the box. I got it for him when they came out and he has never used it. In fact it is sitting in storage now. When we move, all the stuff in storage that we don't really NEED, goes to charity!!!! We have too much dang stuff!Big Christmas hugs to the Ktulu family!!!! :D:

HAPPY HOLIDAYS,MERRY CHRISTMAS,HANUKKAH,KWANZA,and FLEAS ON YOUR DOG everyone.
Our family always did that until my older sister did not want to play anymore. So we just do whatever the hell we want. If we want to get someone something we do, BUT only if we are out and see somerthing that is perfect for their personality and we do that all year. If I find something that my weird little brother would like, like some special hotsauce with a name like Dragonbreath Fart HOT, I get it for him when I see it and send it. We all live so far apart now that it is hard to get together and do big family holidays. Besides we decided to start spending Christmas at Disneyland when the in-laws all wanted us at the same time and date. That ain't gonna work, so we escape to the imaginary land of giant mice where nothing ever goes wrong and everuyone smiles all the time, (except Sssssss Geeeeees)
And what no fleas on my cats, they feel left out, Darph. A big Christmas hug to you, my friend!!!! :D:

Promark 747's are the bomb! Seriously, I've used them for years. Smaller sticks just don't seem to have the impact the '47's do. Can Neil Peart be wrong?

You can't lose with Zildjian.

Don't rush out and buy a set until the "wanna be" drummer shows staying power. I've seen a lot of guys who want to be in a rock band decide it's too tough to learn guitar so they think they'll make it on drums. They go out and buy a huge set with all the cymbals and discover they can't figure out 4/4 time much less have any sense of rhythm. A year later everything is for sale. Maybe you should look at used equipment? Some new heads and you're all set.

Kwahati wrote:So, the weekend of hell is over. I'm exhausted and a little hung over, but we got two Wii's, a jewelery box, those things that start with "d" and get put in jewelery boxes, and a bed! Not just any bed, but a heavy-ass solid wood (cherry, I think?) four poster bed! It attacked me too. While we were putting it together, a plank was dropped, bounced off of another bit of wood and smacked me in the cheek. I was cool once the bleeding stopped, but I badly needed a drink. Oh, additionally this weekend, our tree fell over, luckily no ornaments were broken, but the water the tree was sitting in went all over the gifts which were already under the tree, so we had to open some things early because Jen didn't want to rewrap the things which had been moistened.

It's times like these that make me think I'm kind of a like really lousy recovering alcoholic: I don't *NEED* alcohol to live, I just need it to dull the pain of life (and the burning in my quads!).

We have it for the 360 and we love it. You'll be able to buy instruments separately in Jan or Feb if you only want the drums. Honestly, though having all the stuff is great fun! We did get the dreaded "down strum stops working" failure with our guitar, but they've got a great RMA website that takes care of it in a real hurry. Had the new one in less than 2 days and we were off to the races again! Aside from that, everything is working great. Also, just a little note about the microphone, we learned that there's no motion sensor in it, so when you're using it to "play a tambourine" it's actually just registering the sound of you hitting the mic against something. I was uncomfortable with the idea of hitting a mic against something from the start because it's bad for mic's so at least we figured out you can just tap lightly on the windscreen for the tambourine bits. I'm worried we've already screwed up our mic a bit by hitting it against hands like they tell you to...it seems like it has a little crackle when you sing and it seems a little less sensitive than it was at first...but it's a Logitech USB mic, so it's easily replacable for about $30...

Don't laugh, but I'm a teeny-bopper at heart, so I might just pick up the High School Musical game for the Wii. It comes with the same USB mic by Logitech, just in white! :D:

It's okay you are still a teenybopper at heart, just don't go chasing that underage 15 yr old, teenybopper Hannah Montana. I heard that she likes Hockey players. The report was that she was flirting with some players at a game and it made the wives VERY uncomfortable.

If I get a chance in the next day or so to post again, I will. Ralph has to get the kittys to the boarding kennel and the birds to a whole different one on the other side of town, and I have to go to Fantastic Sam's for my dye and cut! I have a shitload of laundry to do today and to get the light timers set up and everything un-needed, unplugged so we won't have an electrical fire if we can help it, and I don't remember what else!

Oh yeah, get to the airport on time. NO Snow today or any predicted until guess what? The 27th, the day we fly back into DIA!!!!! We may be flying into a snowstorm or be delayed at the airport and HAVE to get a hotel in Orange County somewhere and not come back to this frozen wasteland...for awhile.

I am going to be longing to snuggle with my kitties, I will miss them. We buy them Christmas presents at DL, they have cool pet items there. a catnip stuffed Cheshire cat and a catnip stuffed little pillow with "Good Kitty" and a pic of Figaro on one side, and "Bad Kitty" and a pic of Si and Am on the other. I will try to take a pic and post...They are very cute cat toys!!!!!! I did buy them Mickey Mouse ears one year, they make them for pets...Heeheehee and I took pics of them with the ears on! I am so mean...

We still have to pack and do Christmas cards and ...and...and...We have soooooooooo much to do before we leave and I cannot spend hours as usual here at the pooter even tho I want to and talk to everyone! It has been a hard couple days. I love my family here on SGT who helps me through everything and gives me a reason to smile. I WILL post on Wednesday sometime, before we leave. We have to be up at 3:30AM on Thursday, to get to the airport and check in and hopefully get an upgrade to business class for the legroom and then off to the Magic!!!!!!

I am going to try to get fresh made Candy Canes. We are also looking into renting an offsite chair for the week. I was out yesterday getting things done and my back is not well today. I ate a LOT of percs yesterday to just get through the day and I was so out of it last night, that ain't gonna work at the Park. I need to be alert and awake, not nodding off on opiates in front of Mickey!
So enjoy the holidays and be safe everyone
I love you all and will talk to you soon!!!!!!!
Merry Holidays to all and to all a g'day! :tree: :menorah: :snowman: :sadtree: :elf: :snowman: :xwin: :newyear: :mickey2: :minnie: :bouncemic :bouncemic :bouncemic :bouncemic :grouphug:
