Stupid Guest Tricks

Safaris don't require a license. They don't drive on any state roads and don't even have license plates. They don't even use air brakes. I'm still not used to the sound that is not made when I pull the parking brake. But then, I can understand the reasons for not using air brakes near animals that startle easily.

I wish you luck in joining us, however you may decide to do it. There is a lot of fun to be had here interacting with guests and safely driving. Driving a bus at Disney World is like nothing else out there. It's easier than driving anywhere else, but you have to stay more on your toes due to the fact people stop without any warning. Just watch where drivers' heads are looking and you'll be fine.

No CDL required to drive a Safari truck. Don't even have to have a FL license, just a valid driver's license. Same thing goes for Backlot Tour trams, and I would assume Parking trams as well. I know the tram maintenance guys have to have a CDL with air brake endorsement, but that's only because the trams sometimes have to go on open roads to get to the central shops building or something.

Thanks everybody for your help. I would be happy in any of those situations. I have a CDL with Air Brake and Passenger endorsement. Does anyone know if those are just accepted in Florida when applying for a Florida License? No additional testing required?

Say BW...isn't it a little rough on the back considering all the jarring around that those safari vehicles do?

My Oregon license was transferred over with no questions... and that's an Oregon license, which is not considered a valid ID in some states because of how easy it is to get one. Illegal aliens go to Oregon by the vanload to get their Oregon Driver's License.

As far as the rough ride, they mitigate that quite a bit with an air ride seat for the driver. If you had to sit in the back on those very hard benches all day (that padding does very, very little), it would certainly be a problem.

What was once a mere rumor seems to be shaping up. I have heard the same from many people now that a outsourcing is very likely. But like any rumors in WDW, they begin to take a life of their own such as Mears receiving 250 new buses (that Disney naturally co-signed for, as with all Mears buses prior). Another one is that Monorails is about to go to all parks to cut down on fuel once it gets to $4 a gallon. :D: But monorail expansion rumors are as old as mankind. Although, it was planned and footings were put in place for the Studios expansion (even a nice map of it in Westgate), but when it came to budgeting... "Just get the park open!"... such as the fate of the expansion and Beastly Kingdom.

Is that the same "map" that used to hang in an out of the way corner of Communicore? The one I remember was made up of aerial photos of the parks and such with the "future expansion" of the monorail marked departing from the Epcot loop and exiting between the Land and Imagination. If that was the plan then, even if they put the footings in, they would now need to be redone as the old route would go right through the middle of the Soarin' show building. (tho that could add an interresting special effect). I first saw that "map" shortly after the Studios were announced as a future park.

I know I took several photos of the map and some closeups of several smaller areas of it. But now I need to figure out which box of loose photos those prints are in (one reason I like digital, a small box of CDs is easier to put on a shelf than a previous orange crate full of prints). :)

For six weeks, I was driving a 12-passenger van around property (and off), and again nobody even wondered if I had a DL. Of course, they didn't wonder about how I was going to drive with my right leg in a cast, either, so perhaps they just weren't the curious type.
