Re: The Days That Fire Burned the Sky
It is not bad for me but there was once ash from a fire where the leafs were visible. Ash here is nothing but fine dust at most as we are lucky not to be in the area.

Re: The Days That Fire Burned the Sky
The air is pretty bad all around the southland, we live about 10 miles from downtown LA proper and we are pretty socked in here. I've been wearing a mask when I have to go outside due to asthma/allergy issues :( . Breathing is painful for everyone right now. San Diego is the getting the worst of it, my heart just breaks watching the news coverage and how many people have been affected! Hope all you fellow west coast folks are doing okay, at least the weather is becoming a little more cooperative finally. On a side note there is a possible investigation into the OC fire that it was arson!

Re: The Days That Fire Burned the Sky
Colorado sent a Fire team down to you all! They know how to fight fires really well, unfortunately, for the reason that they have had a lot of practice... Fortunately for ya'll they are a crack fire fighting team and are coming in rested and ready...
Geraldo on the scene...Hey he can probably put out all the fires with a wave of his hand and figure out who done it in one fell swoop. "Geraldo!", she spat out the name....After all, he did find Al Capones' tomb....
Please take care, I hear the moisture is coming in from the coast today and winds are supposed to die down for you....We are praying for California. And isn't Bush supposed to come in to survey the area later today or tomorow?
Arson?????? I cannot belive the morons in the world. How absolutely stupid and heartless can someone be? :( Sometimes I hate people, it's humanity that I love. (Thank you Charles Schulz)

Re: The Days That Fire Burned the Sky
To be fair: I heard on CNN that some of the places people have taken refuge have all the comforts of home including Yoga classes and AA meetings so they might not be doing backflips, but at least some of them are staying limber (but I'm not going to crack a joke about others staying sober. More power to them if they can avoid their pain relieving vice at a time like this)... I'm sure it upset a lot of people at my work how the reporters were using that to allude to the mishandling of Katrina.darph nader wrote: I'm sure all SoCalers are doing back flips.![]()

My Motherinlaw knows someone that possibly has lost a home in the fires. Mominlaw says that there was a priest who was taking care of some elderly people including his own father, and he didn't evacuate, though the woman she knows did, and the woman is not sure when the priest'd be able to check on addresses in that area.

Re: The Days That Fire Burned the Sky
Mom and I moved to a new apt. last month, and not only is it newer and in far better condition than the one we left, it has A/C. When the fire in Santiage broke out--we had been out in the wind doing some shopping, came back and shortly afterward noticed the smoke--it was about 4 miles away, and since it has moved farther ESE of us. The air quality has been bad for mom's lungs. I'd hate to see our electric bill for next month, from all the A/C we used. Funny how expensive apartments make you pay all your utilities except the gas for the water heater. Usually it's places that are practically made-over chicken coops that make you pay all utilities, the nicer places pay part of them. Anyway, we're looking at the air quality in the newspaper, and it shows that it's Unhealthy For Sensitive, yet when we go out, mom seems to be fine. She did make me run to the nearest mall to find her a puzzle book so she won't be bored out of her skull. Teach her how to use my computer? No way, Jose'! Besides, I'm still out of work, and I need something to do--especially since I was forced to get rid of most of my books during our move!

Re: The Days That Fire Burned the Sky
We were lucky, we didn't have to evacuate. The closest the fire came to us was about three miles (Rancho Bernado) So far, the news said the Witch fire (the biggest in San Diego) is 95% contained! I have been cleaning ash andsuit off the outside of the house. I installed a HEPA filtern on the house system a few years ago. usually I have to clean the filter about once a month. I have had to clean it every other day since the fires started!.
Our kids live in Ramona, and had to evacuate. Their house is o.k., but they have been without water for a week! They just announced yesterday that they can now use the water for toilets, and showers, but not for drinking!.
(The pump that supplies the town water burned up. and of course its so old tht there is no replacement parts!)
A really good friend of DW's lost their house. it was on the outscirts of Poway, just to the south of us! totally gone!
We all need a trip to DL!!

Re: The Days That Fire Burned the Sky
I shut out the fires and am nonplus do not care mode. Nothing I can do but pray and we gone through this every year.
I am pissed off at how they try to use our annual fires to that of hurricane Katrina. They forget about Rita and other storms. We have windy but good dry weather. We know how fast the fires are moving and can plan out worse case scenarios. For example, if the fire gets into Silverado Canyon then the fire will bounce of the canyon walls and burn the whole canyon. Fires are very predictible in that scientist can use worst case scenarios and show what could happen. With the dry clear weather people can easily get out and go to major cities that are not affected like Long Beach, Del Mar, San Clemente, Riverside and San Ysidro. During the hurricanes the next town over was in the path of the hurricanes and a person could drive 100 miles and still be in the path of the hurricane.
Me wants to slap some newmen and other persons who dared to compare our fires to a hurricane.

Here on the East Coast, the fires seemed to have taken a back seat to the Red Sox winning the World Series.

And some local TV stations actually sent reporters out there. That's as useful as tits on a bull.
