The highway in Hawaii does make sense as it connects the Marine base on the far side of Oahu to the airport that's next to the air force base. Many people don't realize the full name of the interstate highway system is National System of Interstate and Defense Highways.

UPDATE: Most of the Superferry employees were laid off to reduce the $300,000 weekly payroll.
Recent news articles say that the bridge is dead. Alaska will still get 2/3 of the funding, but that money will go to other projects.

Maybe another remodel of Ted Stevens' house?

Here's a letter from a Honolulu paper.

O'AHU DISNEY RESORT WOULD BE A MISTAKE

Reading the article about the new Disney resort at Ko Olina (Oct. 4) makes me sick.

As a student at Hawai'i Pacific University, a fairly new person to the island, I believe allowing large companies such as Disney on the sacred grounds of Hawai'i is a step in the wrong direction.

It is bad enough we have Waikiki, which is full of resorts and thousands of tourists flocking there every day. Anyone ever try to drive down there?

Did Disney think about what they are going to do to such a beautiful island? Now is the time to stop the building on this island.

I hope people from HPU and the whole island stand against continued commercialization on O'ahu. It is not too late.

Apparently Ms. Banach is so new she doesn't know Ko Olina has four man-made lagoons designed to support hotels, condos and timeshares and a man-made yacht harbor. There were plans to build a Marineland style aquarium but their funding fell through.

The sacred ground argument is the one to use if nothing else works. Basically, if King Kamehameha stopped to pass gas it's sacred ground.

Hey, if it's sacred ground, it's sacred ground. Shut down the airports, close the hotels, tell the tourists to go away. If Ms. Banach were consistent, that's what's she'd do.

I love how a "fairly new person" to the island wants to restrict others from coming. :mad: :rolleyes:

Ferry update:

There have been hearings on the Neighbor Islands to get peoples feelings. Kauai = No
Maui = No
Big Island = 50/50

The governor is calling for a legislative special session to craft laws to allow the ferry to sail while the EIS is processed. Neighbor Island demosntrators are gearing up for another confrontation.
