Have you ever ridden the DFW light rail? You're never quite sure if you'll ever get where you want to go. And how about the bozos in the golf carts running down little old ladies?!?! They need Big W and Cran to teach them how to drive.

My favorite airport is Honolulu. It's open air and has a huge garden with streams in the center. If you've got a layover it's a great place to hang out.

DFW is okay, it's the Houston Intercontinental Airport that throws me for a loop. When Liz and I were going on our honeymoon, it was an interesting experience. I don't know what they were thinking when they designed one of the gates on the Continental concourse... it's one door with one place to take tickets that leads to three different jetways... and all three were in use simultaneously. Hope you get on the right plane! How horrible to think you're going someplace nice and tame like New Orleans, and you touch down in Kingston.

My favorite airport is MMV... McMinnville Municipal. I'll never forget the day I landed N66589 there, looked over as we were slowing down, and my instructor had his arms crossed. I had landed that plane all by myself.

Hobie, the old trains are gone, they have new ones. I had a friend who was a bartender at a place there (before 9/11) and we'd go drink for free, ride the train for a bit and then go home :)

I haven't quite figured out the new trains yet. They're behind security, right? So they're not useful for getting to/from outlying parking, only transferring between terminals. But... why would you go through security at one terminal and then go to another? They're good when you're transferring flights, I guess.

Or am I completely misunderstanding them? Granted, I haven't spent too much time trying to figure them out. I used to go hang out all day at airports, DFW included, but that changed after 9/11, now that everyone requires you to be a ticketed passenger to go past security.

Oh, and I'm with you on DFW v. LAX. I've been to both, and I prefer DFW. Guess it might just be whatever you're used to, though.

Haven't been to Honolulu. Care to fly me out, hobie???? Just to check out the airport, of course. :D:

Trains are behind security, I haven't been on them yet. Maybe if I have time next week I'll go for a spin. The TSA will love that, International traveler with lots of electronic stuff in his backpack riding around on the train taking pictures...

We were in Hawaii in May. We did a rt cruise from LA to Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii and back to LA.

My friend's mother is retired military and lives on Oahu (just outside Honolulu) so she took us sight seeing. We got to see the buildings that were shot up at Hickam Air Force Base, as well as the courtyard of heros where they have a tribute to the WW2 bombing. "Old Glory" (the flag flown the day it was bombed and on the Missouri during the surrender) is there, as well as a beautiful courtyard and pics/ect of what happened. It was breathtaking. She also arranged a private tour of the Missouri for us. I'll send pics if anyone is interested. We also visited Pearl Harbor Naval Base (not just the memorial, the base itself), Schofield Army Base, and (forgive me, I can't remember the name) the Marine Base with the gorgeous view and Iwo Jima statue.

Of course we also did the Dole Pineapple Farm, North Shore, the shrimp cart by the side of the road (yummm), a Luau (Paradise cove) and all the other touristy things, lol.

You have a beautiful island. Keep up the good work..hehe

Me! My wife's cousin is in the navy, so he picked pearl harbor. He is on a ship in the Persian gulf but his wife is living in what they call a million dollar house on base housing. He said he was shocked at how nice it is, and also that Pearl Harbor is not the #1 choice of those entering the navy! We're planning to visit before he leaves, which is something like 4 years or something heh

Was it Camp Smith, up on the hillside, or was it Kaneohe Marine Corps Air Station, which over on the windward side of the island? Your post brought back lots of memories of our time there in the 70s, when my ex was a helo instructor pilot in the Army. We managed to stretch a 3-year tour into 10 years of living in paradise. I still miss it.

Kaneohe I believe. It is the one with the incredible bay right there right?
