Just to clarify--Hall of Presidents is in Mk, not the Amercian Adventure in Epcot.

You are correct. The American Adventure has less of a focus on the presidents and more focus upon America itself.

Cleary this was a stuid move. However, given how almost everything seems to be fake or simulated at WDW, could the grandfather be forgiven for not realizing that the seal was real?

What makes this a "real" seal anyway? I'm sure the office in the oval office must get changed every now and then since carpets do wear out. Also, the seal is on lots of things besides the carpet. For example, there's usually a copy of the seal on the podium that the president uses at the White House. You can buy souvenirs in Washington with the seal on it. I've seen china from presidential dinners with the seal. I'm not being sarcastic here--I'm really curious how this was designated an "official" seal. Did Nixon (who would have been president at the time MK opened) make an official pronouncement of some sort which designated this nice piece of carpeting an "official" seal?

so make your political statement on another board if you want to bash the president. read why this board was established.
A couple of small points of explanation, as it seems we haven't been sufficiently clear:

1. It is permitted to make fun of the President of the United States on this board *IF* it's relevant (and doing so in the context of the Hall of Presidents makes it so), and if it's funny (judgment call, but I smiled).

2. The moderators here are the moderators. If any non-moderator is unhappy with the content of any post (including posts by the moderators), they should limit themselves to clicking on the "report" button and telling the moderators about it. There is a line between expressing one's opinion and attempting to moderate the group. Please try not to cross it.

3. This board is (among other things) a place for Cast Members to blow off a little steam so we don't go postal on our guests. Your moderators tend to give a bit more slack to our fellow CMs (and former CMs) than we do to guests here. Yes, it's biased, bigoted, and prejudicial -- cope with it!

sorry if i posted incorrectly....i read the entire dis post, and no where did anyone take into consideration the cm's and the jobs they were trying to do. in fact, what was posted amounted to little more than making fun of the cm's trying to do their job.

i thought the big deal wasn't so much the seal, but the disregard for an enclosed area.....but the june seems to take issue with
1. it being stupid to have the presidential seal there anyway
2. the president is stupid so his seal is as well and
3. aren't there more serious rules violations to worry about.....

i felt i was defending the honor of the cm's based on the disboards thread and the responses to it....the idea that, here look at the cute picture of my kid breaking the rules, is ok. let's all have a good laugh.

just offering my most humble opinion....the seal of the president represents all presidents....not just the current one, so to me, dishonoring that is dishonoring the office of the president, whether i voted for him or not.

I have now read the disbaord thread. Those people sound like morons. The people who talk about how they will be trying this on their next visit... idiots. Had I bothered to read the entire Dis thread, my post would have been different.

I will admit that when I first read the post I did not realize that OP was from another board. I thought it had actaully happened to the person who posted it on SGT. I'm a Stupid Guest.

I thought it was a castmember who had a family member do this. She sounded sorry. No reason to berate her... It happened.

However I do not agree with Anna that the family should have been thrown out of the park. Not because there are bigger, better violations... I just assume this thing happens all the time.

I have just as much respect for the office as the next guy. Believe it or not maybe even more. Whether that emcompasses the seal, is well my business.

I do think it is silly to have something like that at a theme park. Ya gotta think things like this will happen.

I have never been to WDW, but I'm guesssing they don't park the space shuttle out in front of Space Mountain.

For the record, I agree with my FRIEND Leftcoaster... it was an intentional lack of respect for WDW... and I do believe that is wrong.

Amen! It could just as well have been anything from a shark tank to a trash dumpster holding area, for all it matters. The fact is, these Darwin-escapees blatantly disregarded a barrier. They are probably the kind who hop chains and move trash cans and generally disregard any rules that are inconvenient to them or that would give them a "cute" photo opportunity.

This was exactly my point. You see a roped off area--you stay out. There's nothing cute about breaking the rules. To me, it is a SGT, to enter any roped off area at Disney.

As far as the disrespect, that was secondary to me but is also a valid reason that I do not see it as cute. If the grandfather saw a U.S. flag on display at the Hall of Presidents, would he think it was Ok to use it as a baby blanket and wrap the child in it? Would that be cute?
