Somewhat old, but partially on-topic

The following was downloaded from the Usenet News group REC.ARTS.DISNEY.PARKS

To Whom It May Concern,
I have been paying close attention to Disney's support for "gays". This is something that I cannot support. I would like to have a letter from Disney explaining your position, so that I do not have my facts wrong.

I am a father of a AAU competitor in the sport of Karate. I work as a coach and we bring a team from Alaska to AAU national events. My Daughter just returned from New Orleans La where she and I saw that AAU and Disney are partners.

I would hate to see an entire boycott of AAU against Disney, But your public support for gays is just something me and my family cannot be surrounded by.

Thank you for your attention in this matter.

Subject: Gay protest

Sir (and I use the term loosely):

The Walt Disney Company (and consolidated subsidiaries) supports gays in the same way it supports, whites, blacks, Asians, arabs, native Americans, Christians, Jews, Moslems, Hindu, Shinto, handicapped, and any other group you can think of. In other words, it follows all non-discrimination laws and all non-discriminatory morals.

They even allow bigots; this means you!

By the way, neither I, nor my wife Judy, are gay. However, we have friends, co-workers and even relatives who are gay. One of my closest friends, who I have known for 35 years, recently had a sex change operation. (This concept must really scare the pants off you.)

Since you are active in the AAU, why don't you ask the association's headquarters if there are any rules or restriction concerning membership of gays in the organization. Also, why don't you ask them if there are any statistics or estimates as to gays in the membership.

Once you do that, as such a homophobe you should resign from the AAU as it does accept gays.

If you have not seen Hunchback, why don't you go to a very good movie which teaches a moral called tolerance, which you seem to not have. Even better, why don't you pack up your computer, move about 1,000 miles north, and stay in a place where nothing (except maybe a hungry polar bear) can bother you.

You have raised a good question which tells the world about you. I think you will get responses from a lot of people about your bigotry; it may be curable.

While it shouldn't be an issue about how many gays there are working at Disney, unfortunately it does seem to come up pretty often. Kind of frustrating sometimes. But because it comes up, sometimes you can't help but notice and take "inventory", even if you don't want to or intend to.

There are some departments that seem to have a heavier percentage than others. Seems like Entertainment has the highest percentage, but that's just guess work from observations. At the same time, I think a lot of times that the numbers throughout the parks and departments get exaggerated. No scientific evidence for that, just an evaluation after someone tried to convince me that my department was 70% gay, and after I started thinking about who and what it came out closer to 10-15%, if that.

But again, I only really started thinking about it when others brought it up and wanted to discuss it. Otherwise it doesn't really matter, especially not when it comes to working with them. I have a blast working with my fellow cast members, gay, straight, or otherwise, and certainly don't go around asking them, or attempting to evaluate where they are on a daily basis. Nor does it matter when it comes to how well they do their job, or how well we get along, work together, or socialize.

What do you mean you won't smile for the camera?

Before I joined the Mouse Army. I often thought and heard rumors that Disney was the Gayest Place on earth. One of the main reasons I got a part time job was not the money but I figured I am new to Florida and this might be a great place to meet some other gay men with similar interest.

I was kinda wrong. I went to attractions and soon realized I was surrounded by college program kids and retirees. I have to be honest for awhile I was very disappointed. Still I loved the Atmosphere and started making some very good friends so I stuck with it.

Five years flew by and I decided I needed a big change in my life. I found that I was only really happy when I was working at Disney. So I thought why not pursue something more full time. I knew that if I did this I wanted to try something other then attractions. It was just on a whim that I decided to look into Entertainment. I have worked in Theatres before and Loved it so I thought WHY NOT?

Well Let me tell you when I walked into training I felt like I just arrived in Mecca. It really was the gayest spot on earth. I think the only gayer place I could have worked in would be a gay bar. I had a trainer tell me that in Entertainment men are assumed gay unless proven otherwise.

I have found that the straight men that work with us quickly inform you that they are in fact straight. Its almost like "Hi my name is ........ and I am straight, so nice to meet you."

So I have been in Entertainment for some time now. Now I realize the hardest part. Finding a SINGLE gay man. All the guys I would love to date are already in wonderful long term relationships with men they also met here at work. So now I am feeling like the ONLY SINGLE GAY MAN AT WALT DISNEY WORLD. Such is life.

Maybe you'll like the NEXT new guy that starts in Entertainment. Maybe HE won't be attached.

Why has this thread been dredged up after 6 YEARS?!

"A little swordplay, now and then, keeps my mind off sheep!"

"You're messing with my Zen thing, man."

"Dreams are as portals,
flat visions of misty places,
fragments bound below my surface,
but I can write dreams,
they flow from me,
inscribed but now unbound,
I touch them,
and they are real,
and they are real."

That's pretty much what my brother said when he was doing acting gigs in Denver, at least when it came to the people actually getting paid for it.
