Quite possibly the most ridiculous Guest accusation EVER
Re: Quite possibly the most ridiculous Guest accusation EVER
Having spent over half of my working life in some sort of customer service position, I am well aware that no matter how stupid and wrong they are, the customer (guest) is always right. I used to have the luxury of being a little (alot) freer(sp?) with my mouth, but not at Disney. You will not please everyone. Some people think it's their civil right to be in that park and do whatever they want because they paid to be there.
The only thing I see that Aaron may have goofed on is saying snippy. Then he had to deal with all that just for doing what he thought was right, stepping in to help a co-worker. Like Murphy says, " No good deed goes unpunished".
There aren't many non-confrontational ways to ask a guest to calm down, and it's tough to think of one in the heat of the moment.
I guess I'll stop my ranting for now.

Best approach I ever achieved was to ask the guest quietly, "Shall I call the sheriff now, or would you like to yell some more first?"cujo31 wrote:There aren't many non-confrontational ways to ask a guest to calm down, and it's tough to think of one in the heat of the moment.

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

Aaron,Aaron the Wanderer wrote:Disney was my very first job, I was looking to aim high, but perhaps I jumped the gun. I was overwhelmed by the emotions I kept inside me, about becoming a victim of the clique-ish environment backstage, about the unbearable guests who "Leave their brains at the gate", about the injustice of seeing a manager allowing a guest to completely bypass the two safety videos in the ride area and skip to the main attraction after said guest screamed at a midle-aged cast member for not allowing him to go into the briefing room because he didn't have a launch ticket and threatening her about it, and about the nerve of some CMs who think they're treated unfairly because another CM whose obesity became a disability recieves special treatment because she can't walk long distances without becoming short of breath, and calling the obese CM "lazy". I internalized it all and it broke me down.
First of all, I don't think you did anything terribly wrong...would you have handled the situation differently, if you had 5 years experience working there? Yes. But you didn't. You're young. You're not usued to dealing with such situations, yet. You did what you thought was right, you tried to help a co-worker (something I always appreciated in that situation). Unfortunatly Disney doesn't really train us to deal with the illogical ranting of some guests...so we all have to learn how to deal with that over time...and in our own ways. Some of us (like me) realize, we'd be happier doing something else...and we leave...and we're happier. (Most people I know who went from WDW to Universal feel that way).
I think my experience working at disney was very similar to yours..I worked MK attractions for over 3 years...and to be honest, it almost broke me. I left over a year ago...and I am so glad I did (I'm actually beging to like Disney again)...I was 18 when I started, and was appalled by the things I saw and the things I tolerated.
I loved aspects of my job (mostly the guest interaction...at least when I wasn't being threatened) but the backstage "stuff" (which always seemed to blead over into onstage in my area) wore me down...especially the CP's (no offense to anyone...we had certain one's in our area that had me...well...it was bad...) I hated the way my management treated me...as well as some of the other cast members...Oh the memories I try to repress...
Anyway...
I'd like to suggest looking into working at Universal, if you're still interested in such a job...I wanted to, but ended up moving to Cali before I got a chance. I've heard good things, from friends who work there, and they're benefits are pretty nice, I believe.

I've already put in an application for Universal on the internet (though I am starting to think twice about doing that again...), and thinking of Sea World, too. Maybe the Gaylord Palms or those fancy resorts.... anything over 7.50....aurorasleeping wrote:Aaron,

.... Sigh........ No employer seems to be interested in my services. I've tried McDonalds (not hiring), Winn-Dixie (no return call), KFC (not hiring), some small buisness resturaunt (not hiring), a bowling alley (no return call), Target (didn't make it past the interview), Wal-Mart (no return call), K-Mart (no return call), Publix, Subway, Orlando International Airport(no return call), Universal Studios (no return call) and EB Games (no return call).
I gotta be doing something wrong.

Aaron, I see you are in Clermont, have you considered the Lake County school system? They are hiring various positions such as cafeteria workers and custodial if you don't have a degree. It might not be what you want but it is a job.

Aaron-
Try for Halloween Horror Nights. You get paid to SCARE the guests. How much fun can that be?

I'm with piratejohn on this one. It's not a good idea to be "snippy" on your first post.Like they say "unless you've walked a mile in their shoes". :mad:PirateJohn wrote:This is your first post ever on SGT, you're not a cast member, and somehow you feel you have the right to say something like this. Sounds like you need to find a new web site to post on.
This is a site by and for cast members. We do allow guests here, but you have to realize that you're backstage here. If you want to whine about cast members, go to Mice Age or Laughing Place. Or at least wait until you've been around this site a bit so you don't sound like a complete jerk with your very first post.
