the worst was in 2000 when I memorized a buncha those prices after tax, then they lowered the sales tax rate to 7.50% in 2001, and after a year of memorizing prices after tax on that tax rate, they raised it back to 7.75% like it was before.BirdMom wrote:Anyway, after you've been there in merch. a very long time, you not only have the prices of every doo-dad memorized, but the price with tax and various combinations with tax as well.

This will show my age...I really miss the days of the straight 5% sales tax. I don't think it's been around since I was in high school, but dang it was easy to calculate mentally...
...and to think that when I started in Merch. we still had the old fashioned cash registers that were non-computerized, 3 sales categories...character merchandise, non-character taxable merchandise and non-taxable merchandise. And every register had a teeny little chart taped to it so that you could figure the tax in a jiffy if you weren't a math wiz...lol (of course, it only went up to $100, so you'd have to do a teeny bit of addition as needed...Japanese tour groups buying 20 of the same item everyone?).

Frozen Lemonade! My Favorite!!!!
How much are they?Fritter wrote:ya, why the hell can't people read signs? Sheesh! I was on a frozen lemonade push cart today, with three signs that say "Soft Frozen Lemonade $3.50." And for some reason, I still got guests asking me how much they were
I'm kidding...don't hurt me.

I had a couple of guests do that, it was hella messy, but cheaper. The fun part was that you cut open your favorite characters without getting in trouble. It wasn't hard since those things popped a seam all the time anyway.Dante101 wrote: I heard that people would buy it, do a "Jack the Ripper" on it, throw away the stuffing, and get it restuffed back in their home country.
I love those people who rant and complain about SM's closure. Than at Splash Mtn., I saw an angry Assholder complain about Splash's long lines. "It's because Space is closed! You guys shouldn't have closed it!" Jeez, c'mon, I don't think one thing's gonna screw the entire thing up. Only thing that caught me off guard was Space closed May or something instead of August. No complaints from me though. I want that thing to be re-habbed. Needs it :) .
RIP Bud Hurlbut.
You will be missed.
You will be missed.
This is the main reason they should not have gotten rid of the old ticket books. When a guest only gets 5 "E" tickets, 4 "D" tickets, etc. it regulates the size of the lines. They were careful about which attractions they went on and the lines usually weren't out of control unless it was a brand new attraction (I remember waiting in line 3 hours for Space Mtn. when it had first opened to the public). If you ran out of E tickets, there were ticket booths in each area and you could pay .85 cents a piece for more E tickets. Then there were the good ol' Magic Kingdom Club cards that meant your ticket books were good for any attraction - so they were all E tickets. The other thing - internal - that was good about the old ride tickets was that you knew when a ride paid for itself. Obviously, you knew what the operating costs of the attraction were, how many people you had staffed during hours and you would see the dollar amount you were taking in for each attraction each day. Now with the back doors, along with only two prices (adult and child, rather than adult, junior [teen] and child) it's harder to tell when an attraction really becomes profitable. Plus it gears everything toward high capacity rides, rather than the low capacity dark rides in Fantasyland that pretty much used to be regulated with the tickets as well. 8)Freak wrote:I love those people who rant and complain about SM's closure. Dude- you should have told them about all the games we played while PR'ing... The "Movie" game, oh and the tally sheet. That was great. We wrote down a whole bunch of things that the guests would say and tally how many people said the same things: "Two Years?!" response- "No sir. Only 24 months." "Are you serious?" response- "No sir. I'm just here for the atmosphere." "Did someone die on it?" response- "I can neither confirm nor deny. BTW... did you know anyone by the name of 'Steve' that visited us 2 days ago? We're still waiting for the dental records."Space Man K7 wrote:there were a couple of us standing out there in wonderful PR shifts... Ha ha ha! People are stupid.
Vance likes ham.
In response to people not understanding simple explanations...
This lady seriously asked me like four times where the parade comes through. I gave a detailed explanation each time. "It starts by the Entrance of Main Street, comes right through here and ends by Small World."
Each time I'm done explaining: "So it comes right through here?" "This is a good place to sit?" "It starts at Main Street?" "My friend came from Colorado and she will be very upset if she misses it."
AHHH! Stupid b*tch. I swore out loud after she walked away. I couldn't help it. If people would just listen the first time, they wouldn't have to ask those follow up questions. It's not like my answer is going to change each time.
Does anyone else hate all the follow up questions? The questions that were answered the first time you explained them? :bang:

I get those follow-up questions all the time and i hate them. The worst is when their questions are answered in such an obvious place like the park map, and they still ask the same question 3 times to get the same answer 3 times.
