Don't know where Disneyland recruits, but here at WDW we're now interviewing and hiring convicted felons (on a case-by-case basis, which makes me feel *ever* so much better about it). I guess when New Orleans refugees turned us down, that was the next most desperate group of potential cast members.

Makes one wonder who will be next!

Well, I was trying to protect the innocent from the area, but they were from Foods, in fact, judging by what they were wearing, the Inn Between, which means if they had taken off the apron (yes, they were wearing the apron) and their nametag noone would've been the wiser.

Case-by-case basis, huh? I can see those interviews...oh you were in jail for money laundering, well we can put you in attractions, there's no money there...and you were in jail for murder....well foods over at DL desperately needs people, so I think we can make an exception for you.

You got to be kidding me!

WDW is so short-staffed that it needs to go find convicted felons to fill these kind of positions? From where I live, the labor shortage is still a major problem and I am not currently living in America. And, yes, I was born a New Yorker, before moving to Canada with my mother. More so, are CPers getting more dense each year overall? Oh, no.

How do you guys cope with this prospect almost every day that you come to work there? Believe me, I have been down that road and it is definitely not fun in every aspect of it. Some people, to me, seem to think that they can work less and get "paid more" at the same time. I do not appreciate that kind of attitude whatsoever. Makes my position much harder to deal with, especially with managers and higher-ups nipping at your heels about what is going on conservatively about every 15 minutes. And, at the same time, you have to be professional in your behavior in front of them and guests alike. Stress like that can overwhelm even the best of people here.

Wonder if TPTB should be reminded of this Walt quote:
To keep an operation like Disneyland going you have to pour it in there. It's what I call 'keeping the show on the road.' You have to keep throwing it in; you can't sit back and let it ride. Not just new attractions but keeping it staffed properly... you know, never letting your personnel get sloppy... never let them be unfriendly. That's been our policy all our lives. My brother and I have done that, and that is what has built our organization. We're not out to make a fast dollar with gimmicks. We're interested in doing things that are fun... in bringing pleasure and especially laughter to people.
Wait... "not out to make a fast dollar with gimmicks"? Are we talking about the same company any more?

I read an article yeaterday that talked a little about Disneylands casting office. They hire based on a number quota, quality doesnt matter. It said CM's get 16 days a year to sign other people into the park and it used to be you had to be there 30 days before you got this benifit but now they give it to them right away and it seems some of these new CM's were selling entry to people for less than the price of a ticket. They were soliciting guests right in front of the parks, the writer described it as "shooting fish in a barrel" for security. Over a dozen a day fired for this. They also said some CM's were fired a month after starting because the background check came back bad.

I dont think Disney is going to get over undesirable CM's unless they raise pay rates. I would love to work for Disney but I cant live off what they pay. I hope those of you that have been there for a while get regular raises and starting wages are just temporary for full time people. I see so many CM's do a geat job and Disney needs to keep the good ones.

But, rest assured, it is not only Disney that has had problems, I have had my fair share of worthless people over the years. The thieves, liars, call in sick, dont show up and dont call, and the genuinley stupid. We call them warm bodies, I went through most of last year like that, short handed and a warm body to fill a spot. I'm in towing and as I told my newest driver 2 days ago, it isnt rocket science, I can train a chimp to do this job, just look at the graveyard man.

The 1980 US Census was full of warm bodies. We had parties and some people would be sitting there sleeping. They had one old lady who would sleep all day. I cannot work due to my health probably, not tried lately, but I could not make ends meet on Disney wages unless I was sharing a place with three working adults or living with my mother.

"Just look at the graveyard man". I LOVE that Steve.Where I work, they hire 'snot-nosed' kids (if they pass their background/drug checks). Hell,if they last 2wks,that's a feather in their cap. I've 'tried' to tell them "This aint the greatest job in the world, but ACT like it". :(
Of course they don't give a shit b/c I'm some old goober, who dosen't know his a$$ from a hole in the ground(kinda like my kids)

Youth and exuberance (???) can always be overcome by age and deceit.

I just don't tell my manager what my real income is. My W-2 Income (what I got from Disney) was less than 5% of my gross income. I probably have more money in retirement income than several of the managers where I work have salary.

And they are nice to me because they know any time I want I can give back the ID card and tell them to "shove it" (after first buying a cast-discounted AP).
