You can pick up your permanent pass a week before your temporary expires, but you have to actually go to security and get it, they don't track you down.

Since this thread seems to have covered people that got fired elsewhere than Disney, here is one of mine:
I worked (contract) security at a research facility in Newark, Delaware for many years. At one time, patrol officers used bicycles, but later they switched to having a vehicle patrol. The bicycles were stored in the site's pump house, which was right behind the control center. One of the bicycles went missing, and corporate security seemed to assume that the theft could only have been perpetrated by one of the contract security officers. The exact date of the theft was unknown, so all four shifts were potentially suspects.
I was contract security manager at the time and went through a lot of stress and investigations over the matter. For a security officer to have performed the theft he would have to walked the bike right past the shift supervisor in the control center and the officer working the booth at the Main Gate. This meant that if the bike had been stolen by a security officer, at least two and possibly three officers would have had to be involved. I felt that the theft had to have been perpetrated by a company maintenance employee. Maintenance parked behind the pump house and entered through the back door, so only one person would have had to be involved if it was maintenance. My theory was ignored because corporate security figured that the extremely highly paid company maintenance personnel would not risk their jobs to steal an old, heavily used bike.
Anyhow, several months later a small portable generator went missing in the powerhouse. The powerhouse was searched and the generator was found in the locker of one of the maintenance personnel. The guy first tried to claim that he had signed it out and had not gotten around to turning it back in, but they checked and he had not signed it out (in any case, that wouldn't have explained why it was in his locker.) Corporate security remembered my theory and started asking him about the bicycle, which he admitted to taking. The upshot was that (less than a year before retiring) he ended up resigning and forfeiting his lucrative DuPont pension in exchange for not be prosecuted. Now that is a stupid reason to get yourself fired.

Does this mean CM's can't drink on property when off? Or was it a case of quite more than a few ;)

Sounds to me that it may have been a case of criminal intoxication. Just like out here in the outside world, if someone drinks and remains calm, doesn't cause trouble, remains more or less conscious (not passed out in a public place), and doesn't drive. Most law enforcement officers (LEOs) will just let them go about their business. But when alcohol is involved in an abusive confrontation it is assumed to be a contributing factor and thus criminal. If they had remained calm, and friendly, and just enjoyed the parks as any other good guest (not an SG), there would probably be no foul. But by causing a disturbance, the alcohol becomes another offence.
I don't know if this is what happened (as I am not a CM and thus don't know the rules of employment you all work under). But it makes sense that similar rules out here in the real world may apply. JMHO

Basically the rule is out of sight, out of mind. While I don't drink I know quite a few you enjoy the nectar of the Gods. If you are falling down drunk to the point where you make a scene and they are concerned for your safety...you are criminally intoxicated on Disney property, equalling automatic termination. If you commit any crime on Disney property you are automatically terminated. I know you can get in big trouble if you get a speeding "award" (here at Disney we don't give out citations, we give out awards!) on property and they know you are a cm.

If you are there as a guest, it is more than ok for you to enjoy an alcoholic beverage. When we go as a guest, we are expected to act like guests. You cannot wear your costume, name badge, or cast ID. I know plenty of people would would enjoy a drink or glass of wine while on property, especially during the Food & Wine Festival, and I've even known managers that will go out in a group to PI or restaurant with their CMs and have something to drink. You cannot drink or be under the influence while at work, and you are subject to the same rules as guests regarding alcohol (do not be disorderly).

One thing I've noticed (especially when new CPs come down) is CMs walking around in street clothes with their ID out. Can you get fired for this?

I doubt they would term you, but you can theoretically get a reprimand for it. I think most people would just tell you to hide your ID. You can just put another card in front of it or turn it so it is facing backwards. Enough people buy those lanyards for their families that it's not a crime to wear the lanyard in and of itself...

Yeah I was never told that rule before and I had a Friendship Boat cm tell me to hide it. I never knew it was an issue. I always keep it in a lanyard for backstage shortcuts when I am a guest by myself. You won't get termed but you could get a "discussion" which is like a semi-reprimand.
