No kidding. I've seen a couple that were almost a foot long. This one must have been brand new.

When I lived in Daytona Beach my neighbor and I did a lot of organic gardening. We collected seaweed for the compost pile and brought home buckets of pulp from the orange juice factory. One winter we ordered praying mantis egg cases, with the plan to hang them from bushes in our yard until they hatched, in the hopes that they would help keep the "bad" bugs under control.
One night it was supposed to get really cold so my neighbor brought her egg cases into the warm house overnight. The next morning she came into the kitchen to discover some of the eggs had hatched and she a couple hundred tiny praying mantids roaming all over her kitchen! She and her husband and her son were scrambling around trying to collect all the babies without stepping on them. Her young son was afraid of them and kept leaping around and screaming! I think she was able to save about half of the bugs in a big jar and turned them loose outside before they started eating each other.
Then there was the time we ordered a couple boxes of lady bugs via postal service... :D:

Great story! I'm assuming you opened the lady bug box in the house.

Nope. It was springtime so we waited until dusk, sprinkled the garden so the ladybugs would have moisture available after spending a few days in the cardboard and wire mesh box, then let the bugs out into the garden just before dark, per the instructions that came with them. Theoretically releasing them at night meant they would stick around in the morning and not fly off immediately. It kinda worked, as we did find ladybugs in the garden for months afterwards.
The funny part was when the mailman brought the box to the door personally. He wanted to ask why we had ordered ladybugs through the mail. When I explained organic pest control, he said, "Oh, I thought maybe you had a bad problem with male bugs in your yard and wanted to lure them out." Too funny!

They are at Maui Beach Vacation Club, in Kihei for a week, then at Kaanapali Beach Club, in Lahaina for another week. They manage to keep exchanging their time share in Cranbrook, BC for units in Maui! Since They paid about 5000 for the Cranbrook unit, its been a great deal for them. This is their 3rd or 4th trip to Maui, plus one trip to Oahu.
