Thanks, Wombat! It really should not have been that harrowing. I need MORE drugs!!!!! :p:

They have recommended I see a pain specialist, who can maybe do something to desenitize me to pain. I am not sure what they do, but you can bet that I will ask if this specialist has ever had excruciating pain and if not , I will walk out the door. In my opinion, if the Pain Specialist has has never experienced pain to the degree that it makes one panic, then that Specialist is not competent to treat someone who has.

Pain Specialists can talk all they want about the bichemical changes and what the body does and all that intellectual mumbo-jumbo, but they MUST know what it feels like to have a panic attack just because you are ANTICIPATING the pain or you keep running the whole ordeal through your head over and over AFTER it and go into spasms and crying jags. Crap! I never went through that before.

I guess it was because I totally expected the sedation would work and that is PRECISELY WHY I chose that clinic, they assured me I wouild be sedated and the drugs did not work. Now, I NEVER want to trust any of them again and they are good doctors and nurses. They had no way of knowing it was not going to work, BUT the doctor SHOULD HAVE allowed the nurse to inject more, as she asked him. THAT would have gone along way in making the experience different and maybe more would have worked. I was just shocked and panicked when I felt NO different after she injected the sedation into the cath. NO difference. I was WIDE awake and then freaked that I was wide awake. And then when he stuck that needle in my back without the meds taking affect, I really lost it! :(

They need to do more to assure that the sedation WILL in fact work. People come to the clinics who offer sedation for the reason that they do NOT want to do this without it. They have either had the shot without it before like I did or they are freaked in general by shots or medical procedures and want the sedation to calm then down. THAT is why they offer it and if it does not work, right in the middle of the procedure, it is f'd up!

If someone is on meds for the back pain (which is pretty common) then they need to use their Medical math skills as I was taught to do in Veterinary Medicine and figure out how much they can safely inject according to body weight and total dosage of the meds you are already taking and how much of the sedation will be needed. That is the way we do it in the clinics. It requires a piece of paper and a pencil or even more simply, a calculator and the numbers to punch in! Not so difficult if you passed the medical math portion of your medical schooling and believe me, every doctor and nurse MUST be trained in it. I know it takes precious time and they have an asembly line of folks needing these shots, but it should not be that ANY of the patients suffer needlessly, when other people get the shot so simply and without pain and panic.

The fact that this doctor told me afterwards in the exam room that he would NEVER do a shot on me again because I experienced it so badly was not my fault, they needed to assure me that the sedation would be more adequate the next time, IF there is a next time.

At any rate, my left leg feels great this morning, NO sciatica, but my lower back where I have a flattend disk still hurts. So they found the right spot for my sciatic nerve, but that did not do anything for my disk and that is an entirely different spot! And you can bet I will tell my regular Spine Specialist that it is not acceptable to get these shots without proper sedation, or I will not get any more at all.
sues*still pissed about it  *slicker

I wish things had gone differently Susi, I'm not sure why the Dr. would proceed on a patient who was not feeling the effects of the sedation. The Nurses hyperventilating with you was a good indication of this NOT being the way it was supposed to go. DEFINITELY follow up on this to prevent that happening to anyone again.
It does sound like the medication worked, but what about your back? Is there something planned to relieve that, short of surgery?
I'm sorry I don't know more about the blocks, the Doctors where I work just do injections into knees and elbows from what I've seen, most of the time, I just have the patient fill out the consent and the Doctor whisks in with his kit, gives the shot, and I don't even see a thing. I have seen some lumbar punctures, but only Lidocaine was used, no sedation, so I think your procedure was much more involved.

You're mean. I'm in Florida and it is only 53 degrees right now and the high today is 62. One would think that since I've lived here all my life I'd be used to it but I'm not.

Yesterday was a day no one could enjoy. I'm not sure what it got up to but it was rainy all day and the temperature dropped as the morning went on. I hated going outside yesterday. It was cold and wet enough to make my hands hurt after being out there not even a few minutes to install wipers or whatever. One time it was so bad I had to go into the restroom to run hot water over my hands to warm them and to make them stop hurting. Yesterday evening wasn't so bad as the rain had moved on but was still no fun to be outside (and I had to be to work on my car).

Yesterday while we were driving in that pouring cold rain, my DH reminded me that I need new windshield wiper blades. I mentioned stopping by the store to see you, Shorty, so you could install new wiper blades for me. However, I didn't want you (or anyone) to have to do that in the cold rain so we came home instead. I thought about stopping by today, but it's still too cold outside even though the sun is out right now. So, one of these days, when it warms up a bit, I will be stopping by for new wiper blades. But don't hold your breath, it's supposed to rain on Friday, and get down to 29 degrees Saturday night. It might be awhile before I get those new blades. :(

Good thing you didn't stop by the store today to see me, I'm off and not going anywhere near any of my stores. ;)

Don't worry about the temperature, wipers normally take only a minute to install and I dress warmly on the cold days. Good wiper blades are needed for safety so don't delay to much longer. I'll be at work tomorrow after 2:00pm but am off again Saturday. I don't know next week's schedule yet.

Yeah, but doesn't Florida really need the moisture? You all had a terrible drought last year, so many fires and no rain. Isn't it a blessing to get the rain now?
We are cold today in the single digits, we had a blast of arctic air that blew down and dropped snow on the lower half of Denver, but none up here. Doncha just LOVE micro climates. Not a flake here and 3 inches about 20 miles south of us! Weird weather here.

There is another storm moving in for the late weekend, but I won't hold my breath for snow. It sure is pretty when it is falling, big, fat flakes, so quiet. If we could just get a couple inches and that's it, it would be okay. We don't want to be digging out and watching Ralph shovel in just his nightshirt and pooh hat again! A few inches of snow would be perfect to make everything all crystally white and twinkly in the lights and pretty and not too deep for driving in. Only with the temps so low, it could be a problem for icy roads with single digits. We will get into the 20s today and then back down to single digits tonight again! Brrrrrrrrrrrr.. Now THAT is cold! Gunnison had 35 below last night. That is a small town on the western slope in a valley. It is ALWAYS cold there! But they are all tough grizzled cowboys and ranchers for the most part, so they can take it. *Git along little Dawgie, How ya doin' there, Pard?*
heeheehee...Cowboys, they are everywhere here! Yee Haw!!!!!!
