Your Pet Peeves
Re: Your Pet Peeves
Yes the canoes are EXTREMELY stable and balanced. They never get stuck in the dock (well except the Buffalo but she was the prototype for the 20 man canoes so the boat itself is wider, longer and heavier then the rest and she can get stuck in the dock...unloaded. That boat is a pet peeve of mine in itself). The water is cleaner then you think believe it or not. I wouldn't swim in it or drink it but if I fell in...I wouldn't be grossed out. Hey its cool that you know your limits and know where you should and should not ride and I respect that completely! I mean its great when a guest themselves knows when restraints aren't gonna work right and the CM doesn't have to tell them "uh sorry sir/ma'am the restraint won't lock I am sorry you can't ride"
Smoking...look smokers I understand...it is a big peeve of mine the smoking in a undesignated area. There are at least 3 in Disneyland (I can never remember if the one in Tomorrowland still one or not) they aren't too difficult to get to and be lucky someone hasn't decided that there is NO smoking within the gate at all. I have an EXCELLENT sense of smell and I can usually find you even if you are trying to hide it. The biggest pet peeve of mine though about smoking? The one where the guests smoke above the queue for the Canoes and when we call up to them from the dock to ask them to put it out the guest insists this is the smoking area. Alright folks....smoking areas have this sign that warns you about the dangers of smoking, and ash trays. Yes the smoking area on the far westside is on a dock on the water. (Old Keel Boat dock) Its next to the Raft dock across from the Haunted Mansion. Hmmm I wonder what will happen if I accidently take out the smoking dock with a raft...

I would buy you dinner at any restaurant in southern california except those in DLR. I would buy you a box of chocolates and moon pies. I would hug you and thank you. :) :) :)Stduck wrote: Hmmm I wonder what will happen if I accidently take out the smoking dock with a raft...
Now how do you convince a manager that rogue ducks attacked the raft and caused it to veer into the smoking dock? Blame the mighty anaheim duck on the dock demolition.

Rogue ducks...that might be tough...However! What if the cormorant attacked and had is mob of ducks surround my raft then the coots came and and ok...I know WAY too much about water fowl.mechurchlady wrote:I would buy you dinner at any restaurant in southern california except those in DLR. Just wanted to chime in and say that I was guilty about making a comment about the icky green water this weekend. Sorry! BUT I was good and kept paddling, even though my arm was killing me (it was the second time around, immediately after the first, to balance out the workout :D: )

Stupid guest queston: are the boats on rails and all you do is pretend to steer?Stduck wrote:Rogue ducks...that might be tough...However! What if the cormorant attacked and had is mob of ducks surround my raft then the coots came and and ok...I know WAY too much about water fowl.
I hope you do not aim for ducks on purpose. Remember it is not nice to run over dumb critters. NO you cannot run over guests because they are dumb critters.
If you was in WDW then you could blame it on the Brazilians or cheerleaders. We need a seperate thread for ideas on how to get away with mischief in the parks.
Is it true you really are a holy canard aka St. Duck?
Re: Your Pet Peeves
No such thing as a stupid question. The canoes are not on a track, rail, chain, pully etc. Think about it this way. Would Disney REALLY spend the money to put two CMs on a boat when it was on a rail? Also we cross the track of the big boats too manytimes for it to be physically possible. Next time you're at the park on a weekend watch the river. When ever see more then 1 canoe come around River Stage (in front of the island) notice if they ever follow EXACTLY behind.mechurchlady wrote:Stupid guest queston: are the boats on rails and all you do is pretend to steer?
Never on purpose but when guests feed the ducks at Hungry Bear a few have ben Raft Duck Canoe sandwiches. Some not chases out of the canoe dock in time are Pressed Duck Under Canoe. With the old Rafts to the Island there was a lot of Pressed Duck Under Raft. People feed the ducks by the dock, ducks don't move in time... It is sad. With the new Rafts the most the duck will be is squeezed and it can swim out.I hope you do not aim for ducks on purpose. Remember it is not nice to run over dumb critters. Check stupid employee tricks I think there is a few in there. Also we get Cheerleaders at DLR so I could blame it on them.If you was in WDW then you could blame it on the Brazilians or cheerleaders. We need a seperate thread for ideas on how to get away with mischief in the parks.
I am the one and ony St. Duck. Or if you do know me you might know what the S and T stand for. But for now St. Duck works. :D:Is it true you really are a holy canard aka St. Duck?

Even I whine about the water. I've been partly in it on a few occasions. Never all the way in. -Knocks on Wood- During those really hot and humid days we all were looking at the water and I was thinking "If it wasn't green, if it wasn't green, if it wasn't green" I think there is a thread here somewhere about swimming the Jungle Cruise for fun.writerevie wrote:Just wanted to chime in and say that I was guilty about making a comment about the icky green water this weekend. Re: Your Pet Peeves
I was joking about the canoes being on rails, as I have seen the river empty sort of. Sorry to sound like a guest who does not know anything about DL.
Here is a pet peeve of some friends in the sales business about money.
Please do not hand over tickets, credit cards or cash to an employee from somewhere in the depths of your body like boobs, arm pits, and waistbands. Employees do not like to handle something that has been stewing in our sweaty body parts. YUCK
Please do not put your tickets, credit cards or cash in between your teeth while you are waiting for the employee. It happens to often that a person needs a free hand so they stuff their mouth with the ticket, credit card or cash then hand it to an employee, GERMS. PSST, hint, do not yell at employees when they use a tissue or other item to take the item from you.
Wash your hands before handing an employee your ticket, credit card or cash. Germs and sticky candy are disgusting. It you have someone grab you by the waist while the employee is on the other side trying to pull the money off your hand then you need lessons on washing hands.
Sharing is caring but please do not sneeze, pick scabs, pick at body parts or other wise get your germs on the credit card, cash or tickets. Nothing is more disgusting than a person picking their nose then handing you something except for the germ laden person who sneeze and douses everyone for blocks and then hands over the item with the snotty hands.
Psst, parent a tip from churchy, it is cute and at times good for kids to buy stuff but watch them and make sure they know what to do and are paying attention.
I have done some non-Disney sales and say that pet peeve is to all my good friends who have worked in some form of sales or public job.
When is the feast day of St. Duck?
Seen the rivers when they are empty and can say it was not a pretty site.

Re: Your Pet Peeves
Great advice. My job (in traffic court) brings me into contact with hundreds of the vast unwashed public each day -- or worse, their attorneys. :) A couple of years back I had surgery on my right hand, and could not shake hands for a couple of months while it recovered. I used to shake hands a lot before then, but not anymore. I still use some of the techniques I had to use back then -- just happening to have something in my right hand when the people approach, or have it reaching for a pen. Avoids the handshake without excess social discomfort.mechurchlady wrote:I was joking about the canoes being on rails, as I have seen the river empty sort of. New pet peeve!
CMs who act and talk like they are all that and a bag of chips. Especially when they've only been here for the summer.
