Must be a cultural thing. A coworker of mine used to get this all the time -- I mean 3 or 4 times a week. The thing was, she wasn't hispanic. She had dark hair, but she married into the hispanic last name, and yet she constantly had to deal with customers griping at her for not speaking Spanish.

I have the same problem. Or in my case, people notice the language pin and don't believe that I actually do.

This was an actual exchange I had with a French guest earlier this year (English translation provided):

SG: Vous n'avez pas vraiment parler français.
(You don't really speak French.)

Me: euh...je parle français. Je suis canadien.
(eh...I DO speak French. I'm Canadian.)

SG: Vous mentez! Ils ne parlent pas le français au Canada!
(You're lying! They don't speak French in Canada!)

Me: .....

Mind you, this discussion was held totally in French.

That makes it really obvious that you don't speak French. If you want to make people believe that you speak languages you don't you should never have a conversation in that language, it is a clear indication that you are not being honest about speaking the language. :p:

I wish I could sleep in today, I still had to work, I don't get today off because I am in Utah and the company only gives today off to employees outside Utah, probably because we get July 24th off and no one else does.
