Hey, he got through the episode alive. That's more than a lot of redshirts can say. :cat1:

Maybe he was just the "plucky comic relief." (Yes, that is a movie reference. Who can identify it? ;) )

Just watched it again Sunday. So much goodness in one movie.

"This fine ship... this fine crew... Never give up! Never surrender!" :)

In addition to being a great movie, I always thought the Galaxy Quest DVD was unusal, too. Usually, when I watch the deleted scenes on a DVD, I end up thinking "yeah, I understand the choice." Sometimes it's easy to see how the scene would've interrupted the flow, or that it was redundant, or that it introduced a hanging plot point you were better off without. It's rare that I think they should have kept major cut scenes in. Galaxy Quest has a couple of cut scenes that I truly think should have been included in the movie.

One is the "diagnosis" of the engineering problem by Tech Sgt. Chen (Fred Kwan). Not only is it funny and brilliantly played by Tony Shaloub, but it adds a lot to the story by establishing one of the major coping mechanisms -- pretend you known and let the smart aliens figure it out on their own. Kwan adds great leadership!

The other is the Lt. Madison (Gwen DeMarco) taking out the two alien soldiers. Just another funny, well-played scene. Maybe not absolutely necessary, but it provided a lot of insight to the character. Well, and I've always liked Sigourney Weaver.

I really wish they'd release a new cut of the movie with at least those two integrated.

I'm of two minds on that:

It was really well done, so a sequel could be really great.

It was really well done, so a sequel would be a disappointment.

I guess it's all moot at the moment. I'll have to wait and see if the rumor becomes a reality.

There's an extra dimension of enjoyment when watching it when you realize the crew is made up of Buzz Lightyear, Ripley, Snape, Zaphod Beeblebrox and Monk. (And Laredo...)

I forgot to mention before... There are lots of quotes I use from Galaxy Quest, but probably the favorite for my wife and I is "That was a hell of a thing!" :D:
