There has to be a limit, and disney did make a good faith effort to accomodate her.
I suspect that she rejected the offers in favor of the publicity angle more than anything else.
Again, i am reminded of the radical imam's speech of several years ago.
It was concerning perservering against the great satan (keep hearing the snl church lady!)
and one of the refrains that he kept repeating throughout his speech was
"..and we will use their own laws aginst them"
while i am not saying there is a conspiricy around every corner, the same methods seem to be showing up in "western" countries concerning such things.
I think disney is correct in their standards.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Re: DLR employee sent home for wearing muslim head covering
Up until now I have stayed out of this, but I have to to say that I am siding with Disney on this one as well. Disney has tried to be as accommodating as possible.
I agree with the recent comments, and I think that TechieSidhe makes a good point, if they allowed her to wear her hijab on stage, then they would have to allow other CMs to wear what they wanted on stage as well, otherwise there would be no equality.
Yes, Disney has the "look" and has to set limits. Its all in the name of the show.
Frankly, I just wish that this story would get some kind of resolution and end. It has blown up completely.

I've been following the story in the paper, and she is the one who decided to refuse the generous, accomodating offers from Disney and go home. I think Disney has been extremely accomodating to her, but she's choosing to make this a bigger issue than it is. Sorry, but I stand by my earlier post. Remember the boy who cried wolf? He was right one time, and nobody believed him. It's not political, it's the truth. I'm not a political person.

yes! she is a charactor on stage, and should look like her charactor, Not her charactor playing a muslim.Disneyguy85 wrote:Up until now I have stayed out of this, but I have to to say that I am siding with Disney on this one as well. Disney has tried to be as accommodating as possible.

Seriously, don't trust things you read in email forwards. They're meant to scare you, not inform you. Do your own research, know your sources, check your data.felinefan wrote:I've been following the story in the paper, and she is the one who decided to refuse the generous, accomodating offers from Disney and go home. Dude, your burqa argument is disingenuous and makes no sense. The logic, it is not there in your statement.GRUMPY PIRATE wrote:sure...but what about having all women just wearing burkas for their costume, because SOME parties in that religion are offended if women are not covered up?

I'm making no comment on her behavior; I'm just saying that Disney is perfectly able to incorporate hijabs into the Disney Look. The Look is fungible, not set in stone; we have seen it change in recent years.
A hijab is not a big deal. It's just a scarf. It's meaningful to the person who wears it, not anyone else. It's not distracting or loud or offensive; it would blend in perfectly well with pretty much every onstage costumed role.

Yes, and they did.Amphigorey wrote:I'm just saying that Disney is perfectly able to incorporate hijabs into the Disney Look.
Most recently, they offered this costume, and she refused it;

NOT! Not at all. An onstage hijab would blend in no land! DLR is a theme park, not a park to be rethemed by others who seek employment then demand their own type of wear. Hell, I wanna wear jeans all the time but am not allowed, & I knew this the before I took my role.Amphigorey wrote: it would blend in perfectly well with pretty much every onstage costumed role.

What she said... I mean, I'm not with her 100% on the "just let her wear it" (per below) but the bizarre slippery slope argument you posited doesn't carry.Amphigorey wrote:Dude, your burqa argument is disingenuous and makes no sense. The logic, it is not there in your statement.
And this ^ is the only reason I'm not with the "just let her wear it" crowd. It looks like Disney went out of their way to make her something quite close to a standard headscarf, but also matching her costume, and she refused it.Disneyguy85 wrote:Yes, and they did.
