So December 22nd dawned bright and early, well not bright as it was still dark, but early since we arose at 5AM. Here is the requisite Raffle in a nightshirt at the Disneyland Hotel pic! :p:
So we got ready and headed to the concierge lounge for breakfast and then headed out at 7:15 for early entry at DL! We got in right away when we got to the Gate and headed for the Candy Palace to await the renowned Hand made Candy Canes. You have to get in line early to get them. They only make 40-45 candy canes per batch and they were only going to make 3 batchs that day and that was the last day for them! We wanted to try to get some. They allow only two per person in line. A LOT of people were going to be SOL! We got to the Candy Palace and there were already 4 parties ahead of us at 7:30AM!!! Those who stayed on property got the best chance of getting the Canes. We knew it would be a wait, since they were no supposed to be done with the batch until about 9:30AM. The Caady Maker was already at it, working the batch of candy on the stainless steel counters. It was fun to watch them make them as we waited. We were all in a long line in the Candy Palace and more and more people were joining the line, even though the CM told them that they probably would not make this batch.
They handed out tickets to everyone in line, because they had had a problem on one of the days, when some SGs had gotten into line and SAVED a place for several of their SG friends and the CM handed them tickets later as well, which she should not have done. Many people who had been waiting and had a ticket because they were there early did not get candy canes. So they had changed the policy. You had to be in line early and if you joined someone in line, you would NOT get a ticket to obtain the Candy Canes. We were glad and got to know the folks in front of us. Two of the people right in front of us are members of message board M and had researched the Candy Cane schedule just as I had done. They were great people, not SGs at all. To pass the time, CMs handed out a word game on a sheet of paper and you were supposed to find the words and they handed out cool facts about Candy cane making and a coloring page for the kids of a...candy cane! We had a great time talking with the people in line and taking turns going up to watch the candy makers actually make the canes! It was fascinating! here a few pictures of the candy makers doing their thing!

They had to really work the candy to add the red color to make a stripe and then add green coloring to make another stripe within the white candy, as well as addin g the peppermint flavoring.. It was tricky work and just watching them do it made it clear how much work making fresh hand made candy canes was. There are not very may places that make them this way anymore. We were really going to get a treat!
We knew we were getting closer to getting our canes when he bropught out the rack that they use to lay the canes on.
They started rolling hem out. The first guy would roll out the length he wanted and hand it to the next guy who would put it on a cale and weigh it, then it went to the rack to harden and then was wrapped and the next stop was to US!

And here is the finished product! :p:
Truly amazing how they get those stripes perfect in them... It is so cool to watch and these were made by a Master Candy Maker. These Candy Canes cost 10 bucks a piece and are about a foot long. We were able to snag 4 of them, two for each of us and I am going to send two to my mom who loves everything Disney and can appreciate the habd made Candy Canes!

Y'all are real funny, you know that? Can't resist, can you? Teeheehee...They are good captions! I guess I am going to have to put up with this all the way through the trip report...Next time I'll just post it on my blog, like Wombat! I can avoid all this silliness, but it would not be as much fun and befitting of SGT, if there were not a few good snappy comebacks! ;)
