Moonstone wrote:Apparently, they just raised the price on soda by 25 cents. From what I've been reading this is a sign that Disney doesn't care about its customers and that the extra quarter will keep people away from the parks.
I saw that increase as well, and I have something to say about it. If I lived in a Disney Park you can bet that I would be on the steps of City Hall just a protesting like it was the 60's. But I don't and as far as I am concerned they can raise it $5.00 a bottle. If I am thirsty and I am in a park and I want one, I'll pay the extra. If I'm not thirsty enough to pay the price, then I will find an alternate way to quench my thirst. It's not like I depend on the place for all my earthly needs.
I'll be there a few days and then be back home. Nothing that I would even give a second thought about.
Mess too much with my Mickey Bars and you will have a fight on your hands. Those are absolute requirements to maintain physical and mental health and the price should be regulated by the government.

We already drink too much soda. Sooner or later the government will start taxing it like they do cigarettes (I think they have in some places.) When I first started going to Disney in my 20's we did a lot of 1 and 2 day trips and then I would try to pack drinks and sandwiches. But driving 3 hours each way nearly killed me and we always ended up eating somewhere. My tastes have changed along with my finances and I am much more into the resort experience now. I want to be able to sit and relax.

Personally, I try to not eat at the parks. Just because it's (IMO) more money for convenience. I don't mind the walk to a food place outside the park.
Granted it will probably still cost more than your average food place NOT near Disney (location, baby!), it'll still be cheaper than in the park.
RIP Bud Hurlbut.
You will be missed.

We always have cereal bars for breakfast, and I pack sandwiches for lunch. We also bring plastic water bottles that we refill through out the day. These simple steps allow us to eat on the go (I've literally eaten a sandwich walking across the parks) and save enough money that we can splurge on some really nice dining experiences at some of those world class Disney restaurants. I'm not offended about the raise in drink prices since they let you bring in your own bottles and have water fountains all over.

We might have one or two soda's max while at the parks (mostly the clear sodas like Spite or Serria Mist). Most of the time we'll drink water and I always carry those single serve packets of flavoring you can buy at Walmart for $.99 for 12. Give you iced tea or some other flavored drink for either a bottle of water or a glass of ice water at a restaurant! Then again we always also pick up two bottles of Dansai at a gas station and carry them in with us.
That's our trick at least.

I take a bottle out of the trash and fill it up at the closest water source, such as a bathroom sink, water fountain, or the rivers of america. If I ride splash, I'll try and get some extra water on the big drop. Eating cheap in the parks is easy as well, ask me for some tips!

No more Free Tortillas in DCA :(
I suppose if you wait around the outdoor restaurants, the SGs will leave uneaten food on their uncleared tables ;)

Free bread samples, just go through the line a few times. Yes, food left on tables, sometimes conveniently placed in the trash! If you like duck and can find a quiet place to cook it...

How do you get your Smokey Joe through bag check? Can you buy charcoal in the park?
