I chose to work @ DL, thus the time they use has become a part of my thinking & speech. If others choose to play @ DLR or WDW, behind stage clocks are none of their concern. Dels, :yourock:
As I am now back in the hourly world, with about 18 different employers to deal with in the course of a year, I am back in the world of convoluted paychecks.
every employer presents the info differently, and with some employers I might have up to 12 pay rates in a week. But we always know what hours we worked, and the rate we were working at. When I calculate what I should gross, and compare it to what I do gross, the numbers align, and I am happy. Everyone can massage the data however their computer system requires, but on Thursday, its all about the correct $$ on the check !

If they err, I always prefer it to be in my favor ! It seldom is. Sorting out missing hours or incorrect rates is a nightmare, I dont envy the stewards who have to deal with it. Even payroll people have trouble understanding it.

20 years ago we still occasionally got an envelope of cash at the end of the day. Now it only happens at one location, and very rarely.

When I work in film, with my cheque I get a copy of the original pay sheet, the typed and approved by the management paysheet and the acutal stub with deductions etc. Any changes or overrides had to be noted on the handwritten sheet and explained. It was completely transparent, but a ton of work for payroll. I miss having all that info !

I guess I am just disappointed that they are so backward.

you see, I keep hearing about how disney is sooooo advanced that they do everything using top of the line, cutting edge technology and the latest spiffy super whiz bang things to run the parks.

then I read about this mish-mash and convoluted bit of backwards technology that simply sounds like someone couldn't figure out how to program a time clock correctly. (or perhaps they have made the asumption that the employees are too stupid to figure out the times?)

I guess the next step will be for them to invent a little punch card that you put into some sort of clock and stamp your time when you show up for work, and then of course stamp it when you leave?

Hmmm, great idea.. :p:

The way I see it with FP is similar to what someone else said, it's a virtual queue or a "reservation" if you will. You have a certain time to come back, you have an entire hour to be there and if you're NOT there you're SOL.

Also consider this, FP's are issued for LATER in the day. I may get there at 9:20 AM and get a FP for Soarin'. at 1:20-2:20 PM. That's 4-5 HOURS before I can ride. Yet, anyone who gets in line say, 30 minutes after me getting my FP only have an hour to wait. And I know the response to this, "It isn't fair to those who are waiting between your FP time". Is it? I'd end up waiting a lot longer to ride then they currently are. The mindset of most FP users is "ok now i can come back later" not realizing they are actually waiting a lot longer to do the ride, restricting themselves to a certain time to be there in order to fulfill their "need" (for lack of a better word) to ride something that only 2 hours prior (and 2 hours into the FP wait) had a 45 minute wait. They could have gone back later, see the shorter wait and realize "oh hey, if I had gotten the FP I would still be waiting". There have been times, RnRC comes to mind, where we were going to get a FP for it. the ride had a 30 minute wait with FP for 3 hours later. Sometimes, the FP and wait time were pretty much the same: 30 Minute wait with the first available time for the FP being 30 minutes later.

Cutting? Nope. Cutting in line is forcibly putting yourself in front of others to get to a destination before them because you don't want to wait X time for whatever it is. FastPasses aren't a cut but rather a second, virtual line that others are waiting in. Some a mere hour others, upwards near 8.

OK....let's try this again.

The time and pay programs we use at WDW and DL have software glitches in them that screw up pay when you work a continuous shift past midnight (00:00).

So, we use 24:00 to 36:00 to help indicate that the CM is on a continuous shift for those hours....
I friggin knew this had to do with some idiot programmer, the bean counters are too stoopid to achieve a screw up of global time systems. Their stupidity ended when they hired some bargain basement IT guy, or just paid an IT guy too little to do IT right.

Whenever you hear something really moronic that's part of a business process, there's a good chance the answer will be "that's how the program works".

STOOPID IT GUY TRICKS!

May I ask you this... Is the end time on a FP enforced? I don't recall ever trying to come back 6 hours later on a FP, but some of the fucksticks on those other boards say that they are good all day, and will accumulate decks of FP's throughout the day.

I imagine the virtual queue would work better if your FP ride time meant "COME BACK BETWEEN THESE TIMES, OR BE SOL DBAG."

They do work all day. We've done it many times. We collect up our FPs in the morning when the window to do so opens, take a break at mid-day and come back in the afternoon and use them. It's usually about 3 or 4 rides at most so not many. Since Disney is not enforcing the window, we feel it's ok to do this. If they started enforcing, we would comply. But we NEVER try and use one early or just stand around and wait until it becomes valid. It just makes problems for the FP CM and causes the area around the attraction congested.

It is possible for the end time to be enforced though. While 99% of the time it won't be, there is always the slight chance it will (especially during very busy time periods).

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

I wish they would. I also wish that when a CM was presented with a FP to early or too late, they would pull out a match (wooden, strike anywhere, one-handed thumbnail ignited) and burn the fastpass, dropping it to the ground with a sinister laugh, then stomping on it as they point to the standby line with a stern face. Very stern
