J/K -- though you did inspire me to re-archive everything, and copy the lot to a CD-ROM as extra protection from a crash. 67MB, 7 months and untold man-hours is a lot to do over.
The last company I worked for sold data storage equipment. Out mantra was Fast Simple Reliable. Guess which one our customers cared about most.
We had a number of built in ways to preserve and recover data if something was lost or corrupted. Snapshots, SnapRestore that would bring back terabytes of data in fifteen seconds, and RAID 4 volumes that had a parity drive assigned so, in the case of a drive failure, the drive would automagically be rebuilt and the volume would still be available. They now have two parity drives assigned just in case the dreaded, but very rare, double disk failure occurs.
All of this stuff came at a price. As I remember the smallest system we ever sold went out the door at around $30,000.
For the small user there are a number of ways to back up data. It's very important to do so as DRIVES DO FAIL. It is guaranteed.

Hello Mr. Wombat :)
February suggested I look this thread up, and it was worth it! You did such a great job on this. Thanks for treating me to the virtual ride. The monorails are a thing of beauty, even in the virtual world.
:)

Thanks! Maybe now that my contest craziness has died down for a while, I can do some more work on it!

Oh WOW, Wombat I never got to see this! I had asked March if he knew about your project here and he looked up the video and I just saw it for the first time.
I am amazed! I am thrilled! I want to watch it again!!!
you have no idea what seeing that just did for my spirits tonight.
thanks, man. you rule the virtual magic kingdom like the king you are.
and he sings too. is there anything this marsupial can't do??? my fairy wings are flapping to applaud you.
that contemporary resort approach/drive through is off the hook. it's just insane. you even had the little fishies outside the seas with nemo (and i could see them!!!).
this is such a great use for my newly regained sight. i am going to be watching that a lot in the days ahead.
hugs
bru

With this we can now chalk off BRW's humble attitude. :D: ;)

Wow, thanks, Bru! In fairness, though, I did not do the Contemporary. That, the rail, the trains, and the generic stations were someone else's project.
Glad you liked the fishies!

Hobie,
Did you work for Netapp? They are current full time employer and you description sounds very much like our storage systems. And, yes, disks fail all the time.

I did. I was the Systems Engineering program manager based in Sunnyvale.
Which office are you in?
