With the economy the way it is, maybe they're trying to cut overtime/night shift pay, so they do it in the daytime. All companies no matter how large, are economizing. I mean, if Starbucks can close 600 stores, yeah, I'd say even Disney has to tighten its belt.

That may be but this is Disney. The whole premise is that the guest is allowed to be immersed in Disney, to get away from the outside world. We sell dreams and fantacies. The guests are not susposed to see the workings to create those dreams and fantacies!!!! That's what Walt wanted when he set out upon the Florida Project.

If we were susposed to be like all other parks, then we would cut expenses, like in themeing, transportation, guest recovery, etc.

Starbucks made a strategic error when they tried to meet their gross over estimate of new stores. Starbucks had, for years, a real estate model they used to determined if a site would be profitable. Management believed their own hype, ignored the model and now 12,000 people will loose their jobs.

Disney, overall, is in pretty good shape. The only division that may be in trouble is the timeshare business. Look for a delay in construction of new locations. There may also be a ramp up in marketing programs including price reductions, interest rates and give aways to goose sales for existing locations and those already under construction.

If you've got money and like timeshares, there may be opportunities available in the near future.

Would that actually work? I call maintenance all the time to report things like blown light bulbs (because otherwise they'll be out for months) so I know their extension by heart. I'll have to try that trick next time I see something like that.

Probably not. I tried that a few times when I worked in Show Quality and generally got excuses. Mind you, they were embarrassed enough to give me elaborate excuses. Some of them even made sense.

Painting happens during the day because the new paint formulations won't set up right with the lower nighttime temperatures and morning dew. I buy that one. High work and some heavy landscaping needs light for safety reasons, okay. Some work, like the castle rehab, ran three shifts to get the construction walls and cranes out of the Park sooner, fair enough.

But the times I tried to get construction walls put up were non-starters because either the project was "too small" to be able to absorb the cost or it would be done before the walls could be built -- bogus answers in both cases.

Still, I think it's worth keeping up the pressure. Those of us who know what Good Show is should never let up in our pursuit of same.

And no, when I say a big yellow crane, I am not talking about a bird. I went and complained to a manager, was told he would see what he could do. It was still there the next day. The crane was not in use (probably for noise reasons), so they could at least collapse it so it doesn't show up from the ride path. Out in Africa, in the middle of a wildlife preserve and there's construction?
