Perhaps they could catch a quick nap at night after the Swiss Family Treehouse shutters :p:

Anybody here know how to translate Workbrain?

I'm checking my time for yesterday to make sure my hours are correct like I always do. While I can read the information from a normal day I can't figure out if the information is correct or not for my double back shift yesterday. I want to make sure I get paid the correct amount.

The big thing is that there's a row on the table I've never seen and the hour type looks wrong to me on the other rows. Here's an excerpt from the table, the other rows are similar to the bottom row of the excerpt.

Code: Select all

CODE DESC HOUR TYPE FROM To HOURS
TURN Turnabout UNPAID 00:00 00:00 5.75
WRK Time Worked REG 10:00 11:00 1
WRK Time Worked OT1.5 11:00 11:34 0.56
I don't know what "Turnabout" means in this case and it labeled as "unpaid". My first hour is at regular pay and the rest are at time and a half. I thought double back shifts were paid at double time.

Somebody somewhere screwed up royally. I just tried to look at the EHH and I got a message telling me I do not meet the eligibility requirements to use the Extra Hours Hotline. It says I am a minor. Well, I haven't been a minor for over 7 years. I'll be talking to one of my managers when I go in today, that is for sure. Who knows what else the system thinking I'm a minor might screw up in regards to work.

I've been using the EHH with no problem since shortly after I started to pick up shifts to try to make up for being part time but wanting and needing full time hours. I plan to continue using it some to get more hours, especially if I get scheduled less than 40 hours in a week.

It has been done at DLR! Also, sleeping on a Jungle boat.

Same thing. The DLR uses doubleback, WDW uses turnabout, they refer to the same thing. It's just acknowledging that you do have less than 8 hours between shifts.

And I just checked the STCU CR Contract. You guys get doubleback pay, but it stars from the 9th hour of work. You came in 8 hours after your last shift ended, which qualifies you for doubleback pay, but you had to work an hour to get it (it's a bit confusing, yes).

It's on pages 8 and 9.

And a more intersting thing was this part. Apparently, the company is supposed to provide you with a sleeping room:
STCU CR Contract wrote:(d) If an employee is released from work with less than eight (8) hours until the beginning of the
next shift, but remains on call, a sleeping room will be provided and the non-work period will
be paid at the applicable rate.

Yea, talk to your manager about that, ASAP. I don't know about Florida, but going by Calif. Labour Law, if they have you down as a minor, that means any shifts you have before 4 p.m. are illegal and must be cancelled  .

Thanks for the info and the link. If I'm reading the contract right the double back pay rate is time and a half, consistent with Workbrain's information on my shift. I guess the people who told me it was double time were incorrect.

Very interesting. I wonder who I should talk to to find out information on it. If I had known about a sleeping room I would have used it, easier than going home and back and I would have been paid to sleep.

For the most part my shifts have been night shifts starting after 4 so that wouldn't matter. I'll go in a little early and talk to my manager today. I think I will also print out the part of the contract about the sleeping room and ask about it too.

I'll have to read over this contract later so I know my rights.

EDIT: Never mind about the sleeping room, that only applies if you're on call and I wasn't.

Another EDIT: I just realized, that isn't my union! I'm covered by UFCW Local 1625, not Unite Here Local 362.

Aren't all WDW CMs covered by the same contracts? I can't find the contract on Local 1625's site but now that I think about it I believe the contract on Local 362's site applies to me too but I'm not certain.

Yea, that's the STCU contract, it applies to all WDW CMs, as far as I know.

There's a general STCU site, but I don't know what it is, so I just pulled it from Local 362's.

EDIT: Found it:

 Wow. Now I am so happy I don't have a car with me in FL, because of the late shifts.

Don't take it personally. It thinks *I'm* a minor too.

I haven't even been in a *cave* since 1982!
