I don't really know anything about guitars, but back in my day, Fender amps weren't very desirable. Signal to noise sucked. They got volume by putting the chips in series, so the noise was amplified along with the signal. Cheap and loud, but not great sound. Have they changed?

Actually, I used to love the "warmth" of the tube-based amps. Does anybody still use tubes in amps?

Mesa Boogie and Marshall are famous for their use of tubes.

We like them. Have had no trouble. Maybe depents on how, what, & venue played in.

I found that getting consistent performance from 6L6GCs (not 6L6s, those are different) was occasionally problematic. I swapped mine out for 5881s.
