Agreed. Gavin de Becker devotes a whole book to defending that idea. Even if your gut isn't invariably right, learning to listen to it in less hazardous situations will help you to fine tune it for the serious stuff. Plus if you're in the habit of leaving when the vibes are ugly, you're more likely to develop the skills necessary to dodge guys who try to use a person's good manners to rob or rape them (which is a much more common problem than finding yourself in the same space as a random shooter).

My heart goes out to all the people who were affected by this gunman. :( It ticks me off that the media is once again blaming movies and video games for violent behaviors when people have had these violent tendencies long before video games and movies had them.
