Joseph "Joe" Rohde is a veteran executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, the division of The Walt Disney Company that designs and builds Disney's theme parks and resort hotels. Rohde's formal title is Executive Designer and Vice President, Creative.

Rohde is the lead designer of Disney's Animal Kingdom, and the principal creative force behind the park's Expedition Everest thrill ride, which debuted in 2006.

I believe that the Disney Look has never really applied to the high ups in Imagineering. I think the thought is that they're paid to be creative and if they want to be creative with their bodies let them.

That's what I was thinking... Only more along the lines of "They help us make BIG $$$$$$ So they can dress how they want." LOL

WDI is not Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, and thus, they do not follow the Disney look.

As far as the change goes, I think it's an attempt to fix the problem of not being able to find enough cast members. It's not going to actually help though as there are many more problems than facial hair preventing people from wanting to work for Disney. They just need to be ultra careful with what facial hair they do allow as the Disney look is a major part of the show.

Side note: I thought this was done a few years ago. I remember reading something (I think on this site) about CM's had to grow a bear on their days off because the stubble of a in progress bear didn't look good.

Bears have been allowed in the parks for many years now.

I didnt know there was a problem finding cast members. I know there are hundreds of part time and seasonal castmembers that are begging to be made full time.

There IS a certain charm to the Pooh in that picture, but I just have to ask... Does he freak anyone else out? There is something that was added as he aged that makes him much more gentle-looking.

Oh, yeah, he freaks me out. The eyes and the expression on his face are evil looking in a way. He looks like he wants to eat children instead of hugging them or something.

I was checking an Imagineer with a beard into the Contemporary and we were talking about working in Imagineering and I mentioned that he was lucky to be able to have a beard; he was stunned: he had been working for Disney for years and had no idea that we weren't allowed to have beards!

I've had a beard my whole life until I came to Disney and I love beards. A few hours before the announcement (in my case the announcement was at 3AM when the night duty manager came in and told us he had just gotten the email) I had been talking about how much I thought we should be allowed to have beards.

So imagine my surprise when I found myself spending a large part of the day posting on Facebook about what a stupid idea the new policy is. That's right, now that the policy is what I wanted I'm completely against it!

Which doesn't mean I'm not going to grow a beard on my next vacation.
