Speaking of threads of slime... when my parents were first married my mom tried to make boiled okra for dinner. I don't think either of them had ever had it. My dad barfed in his plate. TMI, I know, but I am full of TMI.

There are only two ways to eat Okra. Either in Gumbo, or sliced up, breaded in corn meal, and fried.

It's playing on fear of the exotic and it's just so out of place now. And if you look at the lyrics, they're pretty gross themselves; I mean, they make use of racist tropes like "no likey" and "me sicky."

It's basically saying "look at that weird food those crazy foreigners eat! Ew!" and nothing more. Which is especially dumb, because sushi? Is not that weird.

Permit me to suggest that on 31 December 1939 --- the date inside the Adventurer's Club at all times --- such remarks were perfectly acceptable in the US, and sushi was a distinctly weird food.

Gotta take these things in context, the same way one does for "Song of the South".

Mmmm, I just had Sushi today. Its been awhile, so it was super good.

This brought back some memories. I really miss the Adventurers Club on my trips to Disney World and this one of my favourite numbers at the Hoopla. I always looked forward to it or "Three Little Fishies" whenever I saw that Joe was playing Hodges that night.

And I love sushi. :)

I'm coming out to WDW in a couple of weeks for the Food and Wine Festival. I may just have to wander by Pleasure Island and hoist a toast to the memory of the club.
