They don't dare touch that ride cause *everyone* knows that ride. It's a part of the American cultural fabric.
Heck I even hear the CIA uses the theme song when they're trying to "break" a spy... lol
It's a world of laughter
A world of tears
It's a world of hopes
And a world of fears
There's so much that we share
That it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all
There is just one moon
And one golden sun
And a smile means
Friendship to ev'ryone
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small world after all
It's a small, small world
AHAHAHAHAHAHA Now it's stuck in your head!!! Mmmmwwwaaahhhhhh!!!

Yep, I tell people all the time that it's the scariest ride in the park, because you go on it and the song haunts you for the rest of your life. :)

Gawd, I hate that song!!!
The ride has been changed a couple of times, but only slightly. The first time was a change that only us old farts remember - during the "energy crisis" of President Carter's administration, they took several anamatronic figures out of the attraction and never put them back. If you see old "Wonderful World of Disney" programs, you'll note that there used to be several children and several hyenas laughing together - that's one of the changes I remember. I believe a line of South Asian dancers was removed - I saw most of the old figures in "the shack," a storage area that the display department used years ago, along with some discarded Mermaids and Sharks from the sub ride (I saw them in the early 80's - lord knows where they are now, and the shack is now the park parking garage). Back when the premier of China visited the park (during my employment in attractions, so it was late 80's early 90's), they added the Great Wall of China. And of course, the horrid revamp of the sound and music. Personally, I prefered the original version of the song - I mean, if you had to choose your poison, the new arrangement is much more obnoxious than the original one!
Heaven help those poor schmucks still stuck on Book who still have to listen to that horrid music every 15 minutes (*sighs*). That must be why I quit!

Do you know why they did that? Did someone simply *hate* hyenas? lol

Thanks for the compliments! Palpatine's look is kinda how I feel about this project at this point! I may throw General Greivous in the album soon! I just started the clock tower and have the back facade drafted. My interest is starting to wane, but it will get done sometime soon!
