You are probably required to register your firearms and have a trigger lock.

Nah, the criminals always find ways to keep using their guns, it would just be the responsible gun owners who would pack them away.

Quite possibly. Of course, using such a weapon was made famous in the movie Scarface, where the main character cries out "Say Jell-O(tm) to my little friend!".
