Okay, from reading the article, it appears that this woman knew that it wasn't legal for her to send the puppy, but she "knew better", and tried to do it anyway. She also appears to show no concern for the puppy, and obviously has no remorse regarding her actions, which apparently she still feels were perfectly alright to do.

Now, I don't think physical violence upon this woman would change her mind, as she obviously is delusional and continues to refuse to accept the realities involved in this case. I would have her remanded to psychological therapy to attempt to cure her of her delusions, and further ban her from purchasing, owning, or being placed in charge of caring for any animals.

Interestingly enough, it used to be common practice for farmers to ship live chicks via the postal system. There was even a special postal category for it.
But I don't think the mail system accepted anything larger in terms of livestock.

Actually the postal system still does. Chicks are hatched and mailed out the same day. But chicks don't actually need food or water for about the first three days since they are still absorbing the egg yolk. Unlike puppies.
And, the fun fact for the day, the postal system also ships live bees. Although I think most of the workers prefer the chicks for some reason. :)

They also mail ladybugs, praying mantises, and other beneficial insects, though they are in a state of torpor (ladybugs) or in an eggcase (praying mantises). They also mail ants for ant farms kids still get. But of course all containers are carefully sealed.

Yeah, I love her argument that they don't post instructions on what can and cannot be mailed. If that's the problem, why did she tell the postal clerks it was a toy robot? Although I have to admit that the punching air holes you then cover was a particularly brilliant move. :p:

Puppy nearly sent through the mail has a new home

MINNEAPOLIS — A Minnesota puppy that made headlines when it was saved from a likely deadly trip through the mail went home with a new owner Friday -- an exuberant Minneapolis woman who was thrilled to welcome the fuzzy black dog into her life.

"I never win anything," said Terri Ford, who threw her arms in the air in excitement after learning she had won the drawing for Guess, a 5-month-old schnauzer-poodle mix.

Nearly 50 people went to a Minneapolis animal shelter Friday in hopes of adopting Guess. Animal control officials held a drawing for the puppy's new owner -- Ford's name was drawn first, and she passed the application process.

Ford, who wouldn't give her age, said she lives alone and is unemployed, so she has plenty of time to housebreak a dog.

"I think it might be good to get out of my pajamas and out of the house," she said before the drawing. more...

The full article stated that some of the people who didn't win adopted other dogs at the shelter. A very good day for pooches.

I just hope, being unemployed, that she can afford upkeep on the puppy.

Currently unemployed with two cats.... will be fine thanks to unemployment, rainy day fund and cat health plans from Banfield.

But can't say I'd adopt anyone new in this situation.
