BW, I too, missed our late night conversations. It was always our fellow CM's that make life tolerable. I know that I will get back to FL within the next 6 months as we need to sell the house, etc. and flights from San Jose to Orlando are fairly inexpensive.

Mapo, thanks. I never met you but you do sound like my kind of manager. Contrary to popular belief, there are some good managers at WDW and in buses. It's a shame that the assholes outweigh the good ones.

Hobie, I won't say it's EMC, but I think that you figured it out. Actually, It's Data Domain which is an EMC division due to acquisition. It is really a different culture at DD than EMC. EMC is shirts and suits while DD is jeans and t shirts. They have pretty much kept hands off the operation as to not upset the apple cart. So far I'm liking it a lot and the substantial increase in pay didn't hurt. The problem with Netapp was that I actually worked for the company that warranty support was outsourced to and that company (Convergys) blocked Netapp from hiring us directly and made life generally miserable and paid like crap.

Once I get my wheels out here, I'm going to take a road trip to DLR. I do want to see the original and besides, I still have comp passes to use.

Keep an eye on the culture and if EMC starts sliding in their employees to take key positions. I was with a company that was absorbed by IBM. They did such a crappy job that an IBM exec was quoted saying, "We took a perfectly marvelous company and made them invisible." IBM eventually gave the whole operation to Siemens to get the mess off the books.

Keep networking with the Netapp guys. You never know...

Congratulations Cranbiz! I'll miss knowing that there's another Massachusetts escapee creating magic at the World. Though, given all the weather we've been having up here, neither Silicon Valley nor Durham, NC sound like bad ideas at this point. Best of luck!

I tried to but there are no seasonal positions in buses and casting couldn't find something for me as fast as I needed them to. Anything that was available required training that I didn't have.

I'm ok with having re-hire status. Unless things really go bad, I'm not coming back to FL to live. Durham NC is as close as I think I'll get.

Figures. They don't let people be seasonal in Monorails either. Except for a few CPs. You can't pick up shifts in Monorails unless the area manager likes you... I know of a few who are allowed to come back once in a while just to keep their certification. I was not, even though I would have been there once every week... :mad:

This Fall I noticed on EHH there were always unfilled monorails pad shifts. Guessing they did more than just restrict them by training?

I was not allowed to go through the OG update training. When I first asked, within two weeks after my transfer, I was not even given an answer. Finally, I ran into a manager just before the six month mark who made a great attempt to help me, but he was shot down.

Meanwhile, I know CPs who live in Washington state who were allowed to go through the traininig, and they are still current in Monorails.

That was one of the moments when I decided it was time to move on.
