Majesty is for Kings and Queens and Highness is for Princes and Princesses, so all of the Princesses would be Your Highness. I also believe that Your Excellency applies to any type of royalty, for those occasions when you're not sure what their exact title is.

Since knowing this sort of thing is one of my duties on my day job....

We first have to determine which royal family we're talking about. Some royal families are headed by a King or Queen (England), others by a Prince or Princess (Monaco), still others by Grand Dukes, Dukes, or Counts.

Speaking generally, and with the understanding that there are many exceptions:

Your Imperial Majesty -- reigning Emperors and Empresses
Your Imperial Highness -- members of the family of the Emperor/Empress
Your Majesty -- reining Kings or Queens
Your Royal Highness -- members of the family of the King/Queen
Your Serene Highness -- reining Princes or Princesses
Your Highness -- Dukes and Duchesses, often their family members
Your Excellency -- Ambassadors, Governors General, and other high officers

Thus as none of the Disney princesses are rulers, none rate "Your Majesty". Most would rate "Your Royal Highness" by virtue of their marriage to a Prince, who would be style the same if subservient to a King, or "Your Serene Highness" if reining.

Of course, as the only source of information about most Disney royals is the scripts of their films (and subsequent sequels, worthy or not), we must presume that Disney got their honorifics right, according to the traditions of each.

So ends the lecture, now -- questions?

But there would be all sorts of copyright issues if they called her Xena.

Hmm. It was my understanding that only the crown prince or princess would be called "Your Royal Highness", while those not first in line for the throne would be simply "Your Highness".

Mulan may not have any official royal or government title, based on her own fighting skills and that of her husband, I would say that whatever you call her, best do it with respect! :cat1:

You are either right or wrong, depending on the country in question -- and perhaps on the date.

This is why the Earl Marshall earns his keep -- this is not a simple issue by any means.
