Re: Out of the mouth of babes
My grandson Austin is only three years old and his family, in his little world, consists of Mommy, Daddy, and Big Sis. I was having dinner at their house last Saturday and Austin wanted to say the prayer.
"Dear God, bless our family. Even Grandma, even though she's not really in our family." We all bit our tongues to stifle our laughter. Big Sis said, "Austin, Grandma is in our family, she just doesn't live with us!"
I guess he thinks I'm just some lady who drops in every once in a while!

"Excuse me, are those ducks real?"
"Yes, sir, but the water is fake."

When one of my sisters was the same age she called our grandmother "The Tommy" because we would always say we are going to grandpa Tommy's house. No mention was ever made of Grandma. So K thought grandma was "the Tommy" part of it. Grandma actually got upset when she stopped calling her that.Ms. Matterhorn wrote:My grandson Austin is only three years old and his family, in his little world, consists of Mommy, Daddy, and Big Sis. My mom kept my kids every day when they were little, and they only saw my MIL on Sundays and other days when she might go pick them up for a "play date". Well one day my little darling said something to my MIL about his "REAL Grandmommy" (meaning my mom). It took my MIL YEARS to get over that one (and in fact I'm not sure she really is).Ms. Matterhorn wrote:My grandson Austin is only three years old and his family, in his little world, consists of Mommy, Daddy, and Big Sis. When my daughter was very young, my mom lived next door to my MIL. When we would visit, my daughter would call my MIL "Grandmom" and my mom "Great Grandmom". Of course because of the meaning of "Great Grandmom" mom took offense thinking she looked old. One day she asked my daughter why she was called that and the response was "I like you better than her".
Re: Out of the mouth of babes
May 30-June 4, 2009- we (my PA, her then 6 year old daughter, my husband and I) were in Disney World when my husband got sick and we had to leave early. Well our last day my PA stayed with my husband in the villa while I took C out. We did 3 different character meals, three parks, bippity boppity boutique all in one day. We are sitting in the boutique her dressed as "Cinderella" and her fairy god mother in training asks why she picked that dress. She opens her mouth and the exact lecture I gave her on appropriate clothing/hair styles for 6 year olds came out. Unfortunately I didn't use the nicest language ". The one I really wanted was Ariel but it shows my belly and just looks hootchie." She also commented that the diva or rock star hair dos look trashy. Thank god she slipped In my comment "on girls under 10". Just for the record I am very conservative when it comes to clothing. When my 10 year sister was staying at my house this summer I allowed her to wear shorts and tank tops at the house but if we went somewhere even the town park she had to change before we left.
