Having tasted a NYC Bagel, I would. A national chain should be at least marginally better than those things New Yorkers call bagels lol :p: .
God, now I have a St-Viateur craving at 4 in the morning.....

I have never had a St-Viateur Bagel. We live in Atlanta and there is one Bagel place (Goldbergs) that we make it a point to grab a dozen or two when we are close by. We don't live near the 4 restaurants they have so when we are close we stock up. In fact, we have trained our sons to do the same thing. LOL. In fact, I changed pain management doctors (Back issues) and when choosing where to see the doctor it was based upon the Bagel Restaurant. So, we can appreciate a good bagel when we can.
I looked on internet about St-Viateur's and found they deliver to the US. They seem reasonable on a per dozen basis ($ 6.75) without shipping. I think we will have to give it a try. It seams they are limited to shipping either poppy or sesame seed bagels (it must be their best).
I was telling my wife about it and she started to laugh that we should just move to Canada. LOL I worked for a Toronto based company 5 years ago and got us hooked on Tim Horton's coffee. She works for a company that owns a trucking company and one of the drivers makes a run to Rochester, NY and he picks up 3 cans of Big Tim's for us to enjoy. LOL.
Thanks for the tip and I will let you know when we get them!

I should have brought you some when I was down there last week. My local Metro store brings them in frozen several days a week!. My daughter is addicted to them!
Since the In-laws live about an hour from Montreal, We have frequent opportunities to get them fresh from the store!

These may be a bit too far but Great bagels & cream cheese place. Corner of Katella & Tustin. Go through light & shop is on right. Forgot the name. My favorite bagel shop is in Santa Ana near PetsMart on 17th st. They close @ 1400 or some odd early hour. Must be some others. Anyone??

I can't help but think that Mrs. Rosenthal would have some problems at Subway about ten years ago, at least in the Portland area. Okay, maybe fifteen years, whatever. I distinctly remember that they used to have to verify all the toppings with you, one by one, even if you gave them a list as your order. That was every Subway I went into for a long time.
Now, the one that bugged me was when you would go to McDonald's and after your first item you ordered, as you were taking a breath to say your next item, they would ask, "Is that everything?"
At first, I did think it was the employee. Then, I went to other chains (I went to McDonald's a LOT back then) and saw that it was a company-wide thing. It was also very short-lived. I think enough people complained to corporate (myself included).
It's funny to me the different "service" ideas that different companies try.
Anyway, I agree, this lady came in looking for a fight. If you go to a store, conform to their ordering rules. There is no small, medium or large at Starbucks, because they don't want it as part of their culture.
Like, if I am working greeter, and someone asks, "Is this the regular line?" I nod and respond, "This is Stand-By." It is the culture the company wants, so I follow it.

hehehehe
that reminds me of a guy from the office we used to go get a starbucks with every once in a while.
he was a forensic chemist and would order his coffee by the different CC sizes that he would convert in his head.
used to confuzzle the poor clerks,
until...
one of them read his order back to him in ML and then asked if he wanted a few grams of sprinkled toppings on the cream.
(seems she was almost done with her BA in chemistry)

I can understand the company 'culture' thing. It's like goin to Jack in the Box and ordering an Egg McMuffin. They tend to get all pissy about it.
(hey,,,I had a killer hang-over,give me a break)
