Re: Just thought you'd like an update on me....
I hope you can find some peace. I'm so sorry about your dad.
I'm not a tourist cause I work there...
Re: Just thought you'd like an update on me....
Actually, I'm not planning on going. My family would probably spend the time hurling insults at me. I don't feel comfortable with them anymore.
My friend's hubby took me out to help him with the grocery shopping, and to help save money he goes to several different stores. In each one he had me ask if they were hiring. I got a lot of noes, some telling me to fill out an online application, and three paper applications. Because I can't stay here very long.
Monday I have to go in and apply for food stamps--they bought me some food, which I did my best to keep as inexpensive as possible--and check back with the census. It's weird how they say they so desperately need people, but nobody is getting called back.
And my friend's husband did say I could have an attorney subpoena the credit union for the records of my account. Because the account was in my name and my sister's so she could manage it; originally it was mom's, with my sister's name on it so in case something happened to mom the bills would get paid, etc..

Re: Just thought you'd like an update on me....UPDATE
Today was supposed to be the last day I was to stay with my hosts. They've decided to let me stay until the end of April. I have been applying everywhere left and right, up to two dozen different places so far, and though I've gotten acknowledgements, nobody is calling me in for an interview. I'm taking weekly computer lessons at Women Helping Women, but the job developer is on vacation, and left before I could give her my assigned homework she gave me to do. So it's sitting on her desk until she gets back.
Last night I applied to DLR for a job as Part-Time Hotel Laundry; I listed my three choices as Costuming Hostess, Laundry and Stable Assistant in that order. Okay, question time--Laundry is supposed to start at $10.39/hr., and they have first and second shift available, according to seniority, which means I'm likely to get second. Is there a shift differential paid, and if so, how much? What are the hours of second shift? Because I have to know, as OCTA has eliminated Night Owl (overnight) bus service on the half-dozen lines that had it, and has reduced bus service on other lines. Is it union? Saw the union dues--actually, those are cheap. How soon would it be--yes, I know it depends on openings--before I would be put on full-time? Or transfer to my first choice? Plus, I think certain apartment complexes have Disney as a preferred employer, and give Disney employees a discount on rent; also, is it true Disney offers discount bus passes? Anybody confirm/deny this? How many hours on average would part-time be? If a role is non-costumed, I can come in my regular clothes, right? Though what I do have is getting pretty shabby....
If any of you know somebody who lives in the Santa Ana/Costa Mesa/South Coast Metro area who would like to help me out by offering shelter for Tripod and I after the end of April, I'd really appreciate it. Now if you;ll excuse me, I have a list of call backs to make....

Felinefan, I may be able to answer some of your questions, assuming things are the same or similar enough between WDW and DLR.
Good luck with everything! I hope everything works out for you.
Assume you'll get second shift unless you are extremely lucky and enough people with seniority want second shift leaving openings in first shift. I know third shift cast at WDW get a small premium. From the WDW contract:felinefan wrote:Last night I applied to DLR for a job as Part-Time Hotel Laundry; I listed my three choices as Costuming Hostess, Laundry and Stable Assistant in that order. I assume the DLR contract includes something similar.NIGHT SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL
If an employee is scheduled to commence work at or after 10:00 p.m. and on or before 4:00 a.m., or more than 50% of his/her work shift is between midnight and 6:00 a.m., he/she will be paid a differential of sixty cents ($.60) per hour in addition to his/her straight time rate for his/her scheduled work day.
I'm going to assume it is union but I couldn't find anything on the Hub about it (I HATE the search feature on there). I know most roles at DLR are union though. Is it union? Saw the union dues--actually, those are cheap.
There's no telling, it might be a month like it was in my case or it might be year. There's just no way to know. Put in for a transfer ASAP after starting. I put in for a transfer from part to full time my first day of training in my area and went full time a month later. How soon would it be--yes, I know it depends on openings--before I would be put on full-time? Or transfer to my first choice?
I'm sure there are complexes that give CMs a discount, you'll have to look around and ask.Plus, I think certain apartment complexes have Disney as a preferred employer, and give Disney employees a discount on rent;
At WDW CMs have the option of paying for Lynx passes straight out of their paycheck, from pre-tax earnings IIRC. I believe they are discounted but I don't know.also, is it true Disney offers discount bus passes? Anybody confirm/deny this?
At WDW part timers are guaranteed at least 25 hrs I believe (I can't recall exactly but know it is less than a fulltimer's 32 hour minimum. Again, I assume DLR is similar. How many hours on average would part-time be? If a role is non-costumed, I can come in my regular clothes, right? Though what I do have is getting pretty shabby....
Good luck with everything! I hope everything works out for you.

Part timers are guaranteed 0 hours. They can't be scheduled more than 24 hours for more than 24 weeks in a rolling 12 month period, or they'll be capped. Getting capped is bad. It means your area can NOT schedule you more than 24 hrs in a week, you can NOT pick up EHH shifts, you can NOT extend your shift, etc.

Thanks. I couldn't recall as I was only part time for a short period.hhsrat wrote:Part timers are guaranteed 0 hours. Every role is costume, so forget wearing from your closet. You will be a union member in positions you applied for. Not many or great discounts on apts for Disney CMs. Think bus passes might be free. Will ask a CM from Santa Ana. You can ask to be matched with a CM through Commuter Assistance Program. This will be on Hub also for you after you hire in. Isn't 2nd shift like mids? Call TDA & ask.
