It's not really freedom of speech. They aren't censoring him. They're just refusing to let him express himself under the Disney title. I think he made a wise decision for Disney. Disney is about Mickey Mouse, theme parks, and cartoons, not politics. Disney should be doing it's best to limit the amount of controversy associated with the company.

Now, what Clear Channel did to Stern. That is definitley censorship!

Isn't that what censorship is? Refusing to let him express himself?

This is exactly along the same lines as what Clear Channel did to Stern. Both companies reneged on their contracts, and the real reason behind both decisions is that they are worried about possibly pissing off the government.

And it isn't even under the Disney title - it's under the Miramax title. Just like Touchstone, Miramax is there so Disney can make and profit from adult films while keeping the Disney name out of the picture. Their argument that "Fahrenheit 9/11 is not the Disney brand]any[/i] tax breaks - so it might be some under the table sort of deal they've got going on.

But in the end, I don't think all this matters much. The film will get released somehow, and it's all good publicity. They might be successful at postponing the release until after the election, which might be all they really want...

From what I know the biggest thing Disney gets from the state is the Reedy Creak Improvment District. In Florida whenever a devoloper decided to devolop something new ie a new theme park or resort. An impact fee must be paid to the government where the new devolopment will be built. Since Disney controlls Reedy Creak, they don't pay any impact fees. For items like the theme parks or resorts those fees can hit the billions of dollars from the mid 1960's when Walt Disney bought all the land.

Under Reedy Creak Disney can operate their own 911 lines, and keep the records secreat. Since there are no residents in Reedy Creak. Furthermore Disney had created it's own fire department, operates power plants, and the roads that are within Disney property, all under the Reedy Creak Improvment District.

Furthermore under the Reedy Creak Improvment District Disney could if it wanted to levy sales tax, create a police department, build, and operate in international airport, build a nuclear plant. Also if there were any residents in the Reedy Creak Improvment District Disney could have their own courthouse, city hall, and a mayor.

When Comcast was attempting to buy Disney the state was looking at what would happen to the Reedy Creak Improvment District should WDW have a change of ownership, and now the state is also looking at possible abuses of power with Disney having control of the Reedy Creak Improvment District. If Disney releases the film then Jeb Bush may have the state, or Orange County take control of Reedy Creak.
