The trouble is, that racism is there, just below the surface, and the true bigots have learned how to keep it hidden, until some incident brings it out.
Look at all the hate inspired dealings directed at our president. I believe that lot of it is racially inspired or motivated, the prejudice morons have just learned to say things a certain way.
I hope karma catches up to them!

People like that make me sick, and I have to say that it's a little creepy for me living in the South now. I grew up in a very diverse area of Chicago so I've had friends from different races and nationalities all my life. One of my black friends told me there are certain areas in the South that he's afraid to drive through when going on vacation, and I thought he was exaggerating. Now that we are in FL, I can see that he wasn't. Orlando's okay, but some of the outlying areas are downright scary. Pisses me off to see that kind of attitude still exists but sadly it does.
This year Universal cast a black guy as Rocky in the Rocky Horror Picture Show Tribute. For those who don't know the movie, he's normally a blonde-haired white guy. Every time we saw it, a bunch of people would walk out in the scene where he and Janet (white) get...er, intimate. Not just white people...black ones too. Get a grip, people! It's 2009...you're allowed to get it on with whoever you want now.

I know that and am saddened by it. It's sad that there are still people out there who judge others solely on the color of their skin. Maybe I should clarify what I said earlier, they should be kicked out for making racist comments.

I grew up in the South and have seen racism of different types my entire life and have never liked it. Growing up I had friends of different races and I still do. When will people learn that our skin color isn't important, that it is what's on the inside that counts?
I gotta wonder what those people who walked out of Rocky Horror Tribute think about Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen from
The Princess and the Frog? Princess Tiana is black while Prince Naveen is white. I'm sure there are people who aren't happy about that.

Devuls Advocate... could it be the people walking out in the sex scene in Rocky are walking out just because it's a sex scene, irregardless of the races? Some people go to those kinds of shows and have no idea what they're in for and then freak and bolt... like this one lady I saw dragging her 12 year old out of Avenue Q about 10 minutes in. Hell my mom took me to see Caberet when I was 13 and spent most of the show trying to cover my eyes and ears.
Some people just do not do the research.

Mayo, I think you're partially right, although most of the offended people (especially those with kids) walk out the minute that Frank, while singing about being a sweet Transvestite from Transexual Transylvania, reveals that he's wearing a teddy. This is the first year I've ever seen people walk out on the sex scene...they've usually bailed a lot earlier.
I can go you one better on bringing a kid to Avenue Q (God, I love that play). We went to see a show in Chicago called "Puppetry of the Penis." And it was exactly what the name says...two buck naked men doing origami with their genitals. It wasn't pornographic; it was really more of a comedy show. But still NOT appropriate for kids, yet there was some idiot with a little boy. My brother said, "Bet he's going to lock himself in the bathroom for a couple hours when he gets home to try out what he learned."

Followed shortly thereafter by a 911 call...

"Owwwww! Owwwwww! But in the show, when they used their scrotums as sails, they took the cover off the fan blades and they were okay!"
(Yes, that really is one of the things they did...one guy was on a skate boat and made a scrotal "sail" while the other pushed him across the stage with the wind from a fan. They said they removed the fan grill for added danger.)

On all the posters I've seen for Avenue Q, it says very plainly, "Not fur the little ones". Plus the descriptions of the characters makes it plain that just because it's Muppets doesn't mean kids should see it. Back in the 70s there was an X-rated cartoon called Fritz the Cat; the ads all said "Animated and X-rated!" But I wonder if any parents overlooked that and took their kids to see it anyway? The way things were back then, I kind of doubt it unless the movie theatre ushers/greeters were really slacking off on their jobs, keeping under 17 year olds out.
