I remember hearing he did an obscene gesture on air, that is what got him in trouble.

--I haven't been able to get a line on Sheriff John Hovic, though. Anyone happen to know if he's still with us? Searches turn up nothing.

Sheriff John Rovic is still alive and well and living in Boise.

I remember Soupy's gesture that got him in trouble. He held the back of his hand up to the camera, and one at a time put a finger down, as he did so, he said, "This one is for Pookie, this one is for Hippie, this one is for White Fang, this one is for Black Tooth, and THIS ONE is for my producer!" I think he went off the air shortly after. I think I was in the third grade, and my friends thought it was hilarious!

One letter sure makes a difference. The TV Party site said his last name was Hovick. Wow, you met Sheriff John? Cool! Thanks for the info!

I was looking at the obit for Soupy, and the photo when he got his star on the Walk of Fame, showed the face I loved as a kid--that happy, genial expression that wasn't fake. He really loved what he did.
