The only Universal Studios I can find is the one up in L.A.--too far. I'm in Central O.C.

According to DLR Casting, they are taking applications for Cosmetologists/Wig Stylists, Entertainment Laundry, and Hotel Laundry. However, those are all for Future Consideration.

My youngest sister sent me a birthday card today--three weeks late. Bad enough the card is in poor taste--typical--but she wrote that if I can't get a job I'll have to go on welfare, blah, blah, blah. I'm tired of being nagged on all sides. At least when my brother sent me a birthday card, his was nice, and he didn't say a word about a job or anything. But then he's probably in the dark.

I've been looking at security work, which I did nearly 25 years ago, and let me tell you, some things have changed. At least when I get my prints done, it'll be Live Scan, not ink. But to get a guard card now, is a total $102--back in the mid-80s, it was $33.55. They don't issue temporary guard cards anymore, though. The fees are broken down thusly: $50 application fee, $1 online convenience fee, since you pay online. $32 DOJ fingerprint fee, $19 FBI fingerprint fee. In addition, they say Live Scan may charge additional fees. And this has to be paid by credit card. I don't have a credit card--been there once, got burned, never again. What bugs me is that since my sister refused to give me bus money for a class in office training, I'm afraid to ask her again for money, even though she listed security as one of the options.

I have a nagging feeling she's trying to disinherit me, take money that rightfully belongs to me, and blow it on shopping. This has been a pattern in my life--I say, I want to do this, this is how much it will cost, and show my homework to prove I've researched it, and I get told no, then again I get told why don't you get a job. Unfortunately, I've tossed all the letters she sent--they were hand-written--because they bothered me so much. And the fact that she works for an attorney and his wife--who happen to really like me, because I've housesat for them--will make it difficult if not impossible to get legal relief.

The good thing that has happened is my vet has agreed to allow me to get Tripod's medicine at Target for $10--that I can swing. The lady who's been paying for her pills has said this will help her alot, and she said if I do this, she can help me in October when it's time to take Tripod back to the vet for her twice annual T-4 test. So I have that covered.

One thing I have noticed that has changed in security is that they pay lots more now--when I worked for Wells Fargo, they were a cheap rent-a-cop outfit, and most of my posts only paid about $6/hr.; I think the most I got, since they varied by client, was about $7 an hour. According to salary.com, the lowest 10% make $24,415 a year, or $11.74/hr. But I have seen jobs where they pay as little as $9/hr.
I figure if I get a job paying close to $12/hr., in four years I could get my student loans paid off, and hopefully have enough to buy my own car. I could take driving lessons in order to drive the patrol cars; I can remember that the only real reason I was hired by Wells Fargo was they were the only one that would hire me despite my not being able to drive. I either went by bus, my mom or one of my sisters drove me, or a supervisor would pick me up and/or take me home. Before mom died I found a driving school that was reasonably priced, and on Yahoo! Local was highly rated. My sister said that if I got my driver's license while mom was still alive she could sign the car over to me. But it didn't happen that way. My youngest sister bought the car instead. I wanted a Toyota Prius anyway; hers was a Honda Civic.

Anyway, keep thinking nice thoughts for me, and what you think of my family is up to you.

OK, an update on the ROP thing.......
Met with the local director, who said kid couldn't be placed in ROP course and now too late to get him in another. Said one reason she thought he should leave was that "the other kids were laughing at him". Right. We should all give up anytime someone else thinks we are not good enough, especially if they happen to be other students. I pointed out that if her students were at all interested in good customer service they would try to get on board about understanding various personality types and disabilities, much as the fine CMs at Disney do- Disney standards are being adopted in many other service industries as a gold standard of service. Soooooooo.....
she was adamant that he couldn't follow the standards of her class, but could stay in for the classroom instruction and job-site train under another program through the school district. So he COULD be in ROP, yet not be.Whatever they want to call it.She seemed to have the perception of a grapefruit. So we are going to keep him in this whatever for now, so he can hopefully prove himself.
We'll see if this actually happens.

Think you caught teacher off guard with the above DM. :) Good For You! There's nothing finer than a mother who gives valid statements, shows great support, love & interest in her child, then has the backbone to stand up to the system. I applaud you.

Thanks MS. Doing what I can. Like I said, there will always be people who say No. Nothing will make me happier than proving her wrong.

I hope you told her all that, plus spelled out what the word "discrimination" means. I would report her to every place relevant to this. There's no good reason for something like that. Raise a big enough stink about this teacher, maybe something will happen in your favor.

Thanks Feline Fan. :) will be talking loudly to people if they don't have opportunity for kid, for sure. Wouldn't be first complaint our district has had
from me and others. Others got a big deal lawyer and got a settlement from our school district in the millions range. Guess after that they might take me seriously if I complain- lets hope they see things my way.

In many cases you'll get action by just dropping the right name. Use the name of the lawyer who got the big settlement and it won't cost you any money.

Yeah, just looking for EQUAL opportunity.....Only care that son gets a chance to train at a simple job in housekeeping or restaurant. ROP director says he needed to be proficient in ALL areas of course, and that his communication issues would cause a problem, say at the front desk. I agree, but do not care if he learns front desk. One thing that she said was that all students be proficient at say, working the computer, then in the next breath said that one of the two instructors was not skilled in that area so she had to get a second instructor! Have also seen emails from her and her spelling is atrocious.
Since ROP is funded by state/county, could complain there as well as school.
Big Deal Lawyer is well-known to people in LA area- on TV news ALL the time.
