I grew up watching him, Chet Huntley and David Brinkley (different show of course)
I remember him reporting the Kennedy assassination, and of course the moon landing.
he will be missed.

I grew up with my g'parents as well, so most the news I watched as a kid was with the older generation of new casters (like world news tonight). I still only prefer to watch these news cast over cable news or local news. If it's not in the national news, must not be that important.
I think the tv will never be on if "this" generation of news casters turn the few remaining good stations into what they do now.
Just a bunch of 'talking heads'. We quit watching one local station b/c it was the same 'feel good/bad' story. Nothing wrong with that,but they would drag it out for 4-5 days. Apparently there was nothing else going on in town the rest of the week. (gee,where have I heard that before?)

Never did hear what finally did him in. I sure wish there were more newscasters as professional and trustworthy as he was.

One of the news reports said that he was ill for a long time, and was surrounded by family.
I guess they thought that it wasn't all that important what he was sick or suffering from, which I agree.
I am sure some more "zealous" reporters will get the details soon.

He died of cerebral vascular disease, which is described in this article as hardening of the arteries in the brain.

Actually, he was 92--his birthday was Nov. 4, 1916. He's been cremated and will be interred in his native Missouri.
