People in my neighborhood have been setting off fireworks for the last week or two, which makes me wonder where they're getting them, since the booths went up only last Wednesday and they've been selling them for the last couple days.
Tripod usually doesn't mind the fireworks, unless they go off close by and it's sudden. She's under the bed right now, but she tends to do that when I have the bedroom door open (like I have now), or when it's hot; it's cooler under the bed. At her age, she needs to take care of herself.
When we had dogs, we always had to get tranquilizers at the vet's for them, to keep them from freaking out on the Fourth and at New Year's. We had a weimaraner once who was so gunshy--even though traditionally they're hunting dogs--whenever a car backfired in our neighborhood, he'd head for the garage to hide. But that was when they were messing around with the breed, so....
I don't remember any of our cats reacting badly to fireworks, but cats can be so cool about showing fear. "Whaddya mean, am I afraid of fireworks? It was just a coincidence I started running for the next room!" :D:

Our cats have tended to follow our lead on fireworks. The get nervous when we close the cat door at dinnertime, but when they see us behaving normally, generally they do too.
The exception is Cleopatra Jones. She's a hurricane baby, blown up on a friend's porch during Charlie, and she HATES thunder, and fireworks are close enough to bug her. She's now five, and is better each year, but she's still not a happy kitty when the boomers go off.
I'd call the cops on my neighbors -- or better yet the fire marshal -- but in our 100-home subdivision there must be six families shooting illegal fireworks, so I suspect their response would be to ask, "How many structures are on fire so far?"

You don't understand MS. In the Nader household, I always get in the last word.

I my household, I always get the last *two* words, so long as they're,
"Yes dear."

Fireworks show went off great last night. Only had about 3% of shells not fire(2 finale chains and 14 individual shots for a total of 54 shells). No fires, no injuries other than some folks with not enough sunblock. Had a few SGT's. Folks that can't seem to understand that for 1 day of the year, we have control of the baseball fields. Had people move barricades that said the fields were closed or climb fences to get in.
My favorite dumb excuse for trying to bring the whole family into the fireworks area? "We thought it was the petting zoo..."
For those of you with the neighbors shooting off illegal fireworks, we have been doing this show at this location for 7 years. Every year, the same idiots in the neighborhood around the park shoot off illegal stuff. We point it out to the Fire Marshall and they just reply with..."Oh, that's just (insert name here) again". They know who these folks are and where they are and they worry more about our fully permitted and insured show.
On the (kind of) plus side, one of the idiots who kept sending up salutes while we were working with the shells, was firing from the roof of his house and had 2 shells blow up on him. He may have gotten burned. Somehow, he managed to not set his or his neighbors houses on fire.
