Re: In the SG Mind: Field Trip = Chance to Make a Fool of One's School
I remember when I was in 6th grade (middle school in my county) we would go on a field trip to different things each quarter as a reward for good grades and such... 4th quarter was a trip to the then soft opening of Islands of Adventure.
After that the district changed the rules for field trips saying they had to be educational, so my 8th grade year the band went to the magic kingdom as a reward trip and we had to ride the carousel of progress to justify the musical and educational aspect of the rules.
it was interesting finding ways around the rules, and may teachers still did go on reward trips, they just had to find something educational about it.
What was said in the first post, that was seriously wrong for the kids to even think about it, reminds me of the battery drummers I went to middle and high school with... really bad at times.

What is a battery drummer?

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

According to the interweb, battery is a brand of electronic drum. Is that some sort of term for just a drummer that using the battery drum software?
OR

not to take this off topic, but Jsilvers, I was one of those westerners, during my visit to Disneysea. I found myself approached at least 4 times, and the funny thing? I recognized the uniform as the same each time.
Might just be me, but I think they were spreading the word about the guy in the bright blue jacket with the UCLA logo on the chest. *laughs*

I was thinking a good field trip would be a city jail. The kids would learn that if they did some thing lame, they would end up there instead. :D: When I lived in Corvallis, Oregon...In 6th grade we did go to the police station and took a tour. It was great. I ended up several years later taking law enforcement classes at Golden West College. ;)

Hey, they could combine this idea and the Disney one -- put them in the stocks in Liberty Square!turkeyham wrote:I was thinking a good field trip would be a city jail. I've never been to Japan, but I'd be curious about the attention I'd draw. I know the average U.S. guy towers over the average Japanese man, so I'd seem like Goliath (or Godzilla?) to them, since I'm 6'5" and over 300 lbs. There's no way I could duck the "westerner" tag if I went to Tokyo Disneyland. (But kudos to the teachers for finding a way to get the students there!)marcusgalen wrote:not to take this off topic, but Jsilvers, I was one of those westerners, during my visit to Disneysea. They'd probably assume you were a sumo wrestler.BRWombat wrote:I've never been to Japan, but I'd be curious about the attention I'd draw. Thus battery drummers are people who are part of a marching band that march and move around. The front ensemble or pit is where the percussion and other things that cannot move are located. The pit includes tom tom drums and orchestra drums for example as well as xylophones, tympanists, and cowbells. The battery is the drum section that marches on the field as a group. The battery usually consists of snare drums, bass drums, tenor drums, and cymbals.
