So, you don't need to use the shop-vac ;)

Glad to hear things are getting done!

Okay, we're eight days into the post-diluvian era. The house has been completely emptied, is (as of just yesterday) finally dried, and we're humming along with all the contractors and appraisers. We should have the repair estimate completed by Monday, and then we're into the rebuilding phase. We suspect that the carpet in the entire house is a goner, as are the kitchen cabinets and possibly the cabinets in both bathrooms.

Is it wrong for me to note that, with the house and garage mostly empty, it looks cleaner and neater than at any time than since we moved in eight years ago?

Hmmmm, sounds like it's about time for me to experience a broken pipe, or maybe a hurricane. I need a good reason to do some decluttering and I'm too lazy to do it without some good strong motivation.

Well, this flood for us definitely falls into the "silver lining" category. Both Mrs. Wombat and I somehow didn't inherit the Good Housekeeping gene that both of our moms have, and we've been needing to organize a thorough clean-up for ages. One broken water pipe accomplished what years of good intentions couldn't.
