I remember learning about that, but I am forced to wonder if any similar studies have been done for adults.

They never returned after Intermission... (I mean, what ELSE do you expect from a show whose subtitle is "The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"?!?!?)

I'll bet that they went to the TKTS booth and bought tickets to whatever was available because they just HAD to see a Broadway show while they were visiting the city...

I love talking to people who just saw Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp... my first question is always, "What did you think?" their answer is always, "It was really dark and bloody..." Ummm Hello, how many Tim Burton films are bright and sunny? I've never seen Big Fish, but I think that might be the closest. Or how about people wondering if "Hellraiser" is okay for a child to watch...

Team America is a good one too, "it has puppets, how can it be bad?" Or how about "Cool World" with Brad Pitt.... Roger Rabbit wanna be film with a very sick side to it. "The Dark Crystal" scared the crap out of me when I was little and that was a kids movie with muppets, so did the first Gremlins (keep in mind I was like 5) Or how about some of the anime that's out there right now... I have a few that state right on the cover with red warning bars around a text box "Abosolutly not for children" I wonder how many people think that's okay for children to watch. I'm just amazed how some people have kids and don't pay attention to what they do or play or listen to.

Now there is the other side of the coin like my mother in law who wouldn't let my husband listen to anything or watch anything because of their "religion" at least that was her excuse. Or how about those who don't allow anything but PG movies until their kids are 18 (not even PG13) and they end up getting themselves into trouble their first year away from home. I know people like that too. Stupid people just tick me off. But I'm promising myself while at WDW I am not stupid and I won't get mad at the ones that are. :D: (I'll raise my right hand and take a pledge if I gotta)

Yes, there have been studies done with adults. The one I remember reading about, though done in the early-mid-60s, involved advertising for men to come watch a free show, an episode of the then-popular series "Medical Center". The men were divided into three groups, one group saw an episode which had a positive light (resident doctor gets canned, but when a telethon for the hospital comes up, and there are clear plastic donation boxes set up throughout the city, the ex-resident drops a donation into one of the boxes), a negative light (ex-resident makes threatening calls to telethon, destroys and steals from donation boxes, gets arrested) or a neutral light (different theme, focusing on a love affair between two staff members).

After the program, the researchers waited a few days, then told the participants where to pick up their free radio (a big deal back then). They were directed to a room, with a reception booth, and a donation box with a dollar bill sticking halfway out of the slot. The men who had seen the positive show stuck the dollar bill the rest of the way down the slot, even cleaning up the room a bit, even after they initially recieved inaccurate instructions on where to pick up their radio. Those who saw the negative show, tore up the room a little more, and stole the dollar bill from the slot, after finding out the directions were wrong. Those seeing the neutral show, pretty much passed by the box, turned around when they found out that the directions were wrong, then went to the correct place to get their radio. A few either stole the dollar or pushed it down. I think a few of the positive ones even dropped a donation in the box after pushing the dollar down. All this was recorded on hidden cameras. It showed that no matter what your age, you will imitate what you see.

Hmmmm, maybe that explains some of what I've grown into! My mother didn't believe in babysitters, and she was an avid movie goer who wasn't going to let a baby or toddler get in the way of her enjoyment. I saw R and X movies, including The Graduate and Midnight Cowboy, although those are tame by today's standards. She also loved gruesome horror movies, which is probably why I am immune to that sort of thing and love Halloween Horror Nights. I don't remember anyone at the movie theaters questioning her about bringing in a 2, 3, or 4 year old, but if they had dared she would have gone all SG on them and they would have let her in just to shut her up. It's funny how I remember little bits and pieces from the movies, like Dustin Hoffman walking around in a scuba suit.

Let me start by saying I want a revival of GMRX. It's easy to understand and fun to say! (From an old cinema ad- pronounce it "Jim-rex")

I agree with pretty much everyone, but there are varying degrees of "R." For example, I can watch the excellent, gory horror film "Suspiria" (one of my favourites) and be totally calm as a beating heart gets stabbed, and I do not mind "Alien," but I walked out on "Slumdog Millionaire." It was just to gruesome and full of pointless swearing. Plus, I do not like it when little kids are abused in movies. If I want that, I'll watch my daily news.

I guess parents should know their kid. Obviously do not take a six year old to "Suspiria," but I know a ten year old who saw it and loves it. To each their own; what could scar one kid for life could leave another totally unfazed.

Just a general comment..

You went to see a movie which was filled with violence and then complain that someone brough their young ones to a film that had extended sex scenes?

That makes no sence to me.

Hopefully the kids will one day experience sex.. hopefully the kids will never experience the level of violence portrayed in the movie. If i had to choose one over the other, my kids would be watching the sex.

Perhaps they show those types of movies to the kids at hom on a DVD player, so its no big deal to them.

(dosn't make it right, just that they do it.)
